can someone please tell me the settings i should have to get two computers networked, and using the internet (one comp has dual network capability on the mobo - MSI K8N Diamond SLI Socket 939 Motherboard)

connect one network cable to the modem, connect a crossover cable from the other network port to the other computer.
Right click the network card connected to the modem & in the last tab something like advanced or some crap tick "allow other users to access the internet through this connection". It'll automagically turn on dhcp on the internal port & set its ip to 192.168.0.1.

well that was gay

i blame windows because i didnt actually have the option for ICS on both networks so couldnt share it properly, but when i unplugged the rj45's to get it so i could share it properly it was magically on both.

maybe i should upgrade to vista lol

screw that, i just got ics working on the 2nd comp

now all i need is to know/remember how to get past that default user thing with accessing shared files over the network

i have ics enabled (its working)

i can also share files thanks to my memory(irl) thanks anyway

connect a crossover cable

You don't need crossover cables with network cards made in the last few years.

They do auto-crossover for you, so you can use any cable.

it's part of the gigabit standard, so if the card does gigabit it should be able to do auto negotiation of crossover
