On a serious note, that story about the woman being stoned is an example of why Fundimentalist Islam disgusts me more than any other fundamentalist religious group. I remember a little lesson from the bible along the lines of "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone". At least fundamentalist Zionists and Christians keep that in mind (in the physical sense). Do these men honestly believe they are truly pure and without sin, or do they just not heed that lesson? I thought the concept of original sin and the whole 'do unto others' and 'only Yaweh/God/Allah is worth of judging people' were all central parts to all abrahamic religions. Any insight booyah?

Edit: I should probably point out that I have nothing against normal versions of the Muslim faith.

Man honestly i cbf'd geting into any religion/politics talk at the moment. Besides i dont see the slightest connection between that and paris hilton. Superform's point post about the girl being stoned was to merely to point out the contrast between the two situations, so let's just leave it at that eh.

See the terms "fundementalist" islam and "modern" islam are used too loosely. Which ever way you look at it, there's really no such thing is as "modern" islam. Yes there are people out there that are labeled "moderate" muslims and "extreme" muslims but reality is Islam is Islam. As a muslim you have to follow all of its laws according to the Quran and the Sunnah (the prophet muhammad's teachings) to the best of your ability, whether it's praying, fasting, protecting your modesty, abstaining from alcohol etc. It's just that some people interpret the religion according to their own understanding and not follow the way it was intended to be followed. Hence you end up with such a segregation - either a "moderate" or "non practicing muslim" who may justify drinking etc or on the other hand a bunch of nut cases blowing themselves up and what not. God is the judge of all judges and he will know how to deal with such murderers who have no regard for human life let alone their own.

Anyway point is, just because a muslim lives in a free democratic western country does not mean the laws of islam somehow change or do not apply to him/her. You can't simply omit a law or change it for your convenience (unlike the bible with eleventy billion versions). So in essence all muslims are fundementalists, because we follow the fundemental teachings of the religion.

Any educated muslim that knowingly denies a law/commandment/ruling (eg: prayer, for argument's sake) than s/he is not considered a muslim. It's as simple as that. Whether you actually choose to practice the religion or not then that's a different story. "Fundemenatlist" islam is just another label that is used by the media to knock the entire religion in a way subtle enough and say "ooooh watch out for those "fundementalist" muslims they're extremists/terrorists", when in fact the whole religion was, is and will always be based on the fundemental teachings of the unedited and irreplacable devine quran and the sunnah 1400 years ago, ie - islam.
