Bought some ram and some new computer parts from these guys a few weeks back when I was upgrading my machine and last week one of the 1gig sticks starts going funny. So I take it back today and tell the guy it's not working properly.

So guess what he does? He goes out the back in the service area and gets me a replacement stick. All this took about 5 minutes in total. So for that awesome service I spent $200 there on some new s*** as well.

You hold $50 in your hand and after shaking the CA persons hand the $50 is gone.

when i was at global, I would do that. Any part that a customer said was dead within about a month or two old, straight swapover.

also, global would always cover all of the manufacturer's warranty (ie if a part is like 18 months old and dies, umart will tell you to get lost. at global we would process the manufacturers warranty for you)

I can see why someone like a student on a tight budget would prefer to go to somewhere other than CA for rock bottom prices but when you're dealing on behalf of business clients, or if your dealing on behalf of yourself and your time is worth more than a Macca's wage, it is well worth while paying a bit more for the reassurance that if there is a problem it will be sorted out in a satisfactory and timely manner with minimal fuss.

I don't have time to drive to Gamedude 3 times and line up for an hour each time to get some RAM swapped when I could have paid $10 more and got it from CA.

I use CA now for sheer service quality over any price advantage umart MAY have. which doesn't seem to be anywhere near as major anymore.

After ordering two beastie cad drafting stations for work, I needed some specialist software and video card that CA don't normally stock, but Will organised it in store in 48 hours to pick up with the rest of the systems. and beat the prices from those who actually stock it.

After that experience I've converter from Umart to CA for good.

Koopz>> umart won't deny their customer the 3 year manufacturers warranty on them.
and if you want to be fussy, the subdistie they buy from is just down the road. customers can always be referred down there for warranty later.

anyway, I will agree with paying more is worth a straight swap-over....

I would have to absolutely agree with Rev Evil's account of how fantastic the guys at CA are. I went there on Sunday to buy a new keyboard (which I could only find one of _anywhere_, that was a model keyboard and had fingermarks all over it and was $140) but went to CA and got it new, untouched for $115. The guy was friendly and I got what I thought I was no longer able to get anymore. I was very happy.

CA is a good store. The End.

The last time I tried to buy stuff from CA they wouldn't accept Credit Card (Corporate AMEX) for delivery. They stipulate that _I_ had to go there in person and picked that up myself. Being based in the city and they're out at Mt. Gravatt that's not an option. They said they'll check the _residential address_ but it's a business credit card so that failed. So I just went, forget about it I'll take my business somewhere else i.e. Harris Technology.

They're more expensive but I don't care, because they offer exactly what I needed - the goods and the delivery service without having to f***ed around.

Yes I know I could Direct Debit but f***ed me if I'm gonna asked my account department to DD a few bux for PC gear (that's why they give me the CCard in the first place).

Which was very disappointing for me, because I really wanted to try CA. Alas I don't see they've changed that policy.

I called CA, a month ago, to reserve a 320GB HD (wiv 8m cache) and said I'd be in the next day to pick it up. They told me they had 3 in stock and that they would be happy to reserve one. I go in there the next afternoon with my cash only to be told (after they searched for it out back), that the guy who spoke to me on the fone was a noob and didn't bother checking out back for actual hard evidence of said hard drive (he only checked the stock list on the puter - which obviously doesn't get a regular update). So after much "ranting" at them, they convinced me to go for the 16m cache version (same amount of space - extra 40 bucks). I asked for them to drop the price by ten bucks and they said no. So I sat there bartering with this dude for like 10 minutes over my new offer of an 8 dollar drop in price. Finally, he told me to wait at the desk while he sulked out back retreiving my new hard drive. I'm still dirty at em!
