i have chosen a new video card ...a Quick question for the tech gurus out there as i have had the same configuration since i bought my xp Pro will i have to contact microsoft for a new cd Code for Xp after i install the new vid card ( snapshot bulls***) ???? PLZ help an old Noob |

I've never had any problems on XP changing harware. isnt that Vista?

No, you will not need to contact MS to get a new CD code. At the most, it might want to duck out and re-activate itself. That is worse case scenario, and I have only seen it happen with communications hardware. Therefore, changing Vid card shouldn't have any effect on your OS installation.

I changed mobo, ram, video card, case and p/supply , added a hdd with no problem a while ago.

If you change the motherboard/cpu you'll probably run into problems. Simple fix is to do a repair install so you keep all your configuration, installed programs, etc..
Changing your video card will not be an issue. |

I changed mobo, ram, video card, case and p/supply , added a hdd with no problem a while ago. warezed version of xp corporate don't need activation and you can change as much as you like, legit shop bought ones sometimes have a cry if you change certain bits of hardware. |

Sometimes you can get away with it. I believe it also depends on whether you have the retail version or the OEM version. I had the OEM version and apparently it's quite picky as to what hardware you change and the retail version was supposedly less picky.
With my OEM version you could change 1 or two minor things without it crying too much but just be aware that every time you do change something and need to reactivate it changes your hardware hash and 3 different ones MS will ban your key like they did mine. You then have to ring up some customer support bulls*** and jump through a few hoops (or something) and get a new key. |

all is fine no problems with the new power supply (550watt) and video card (his 1950) hope i get another 5 years out of this one ...
