The official Command and Conquer 3 website is carring apologies for the problems that are plaguing the game's multiplayer - arguably one of the most important aspects of the game:
While I’m delighted that people are having a blast with the single player campaign and skirmish modes of the game, I’m disappointed that we’ve had some teething problems with the online multiplayer. Most of our customers are able to play on-line, but I know that a number of you are having trouble - and I owe you an apology. Some of you can’t connect to C&C Online and others are having issues once on-line. This is unacceptable, especially for a product that we designed for competitive multiplayer game play. I am sorry that you are encountering problems and I want you to know that the development team is working very hard to understand the issues, fix the bugs that affect the largest numbers of people, and roll out patches as quickly as possible.
Another good example of why it's important to do you research before you get out there and spend your hard-earned cash on games these days. Release dates aren't all that important if the game isn't going to be playable out of the box, so remember that when you're shelling out for the latest and greatest - be a careful consumer when it comes to games and (hopefully) we'll see better quality evolving into the game development process.

This game would still be terrible even if MP worked.

I was going to have a go at the online thing but then I read the box:
To access online features, you must register this game with the enclosed single user registration code. Only one user may register this game. Registration required to access online features. Internet connection required. Terms and conditions, subscription fees and feature updates can be found at www.ea.com, You must be 13+ to register online. EA may retire online features after 30 days notice posted on www.ea.com

That is fine by me, but wait, what's this inside the manual?

Note: Registering this game to your Member Account will save a copy of your PC serial number to your EA 'My Account' details so you can refer back to it in future.

Wait, so to access the online stuff I have to register and they save a copy of my what? I hope like hell they mean the game serial number and not my windows key.

Has any EA game worked properly when it's gone gold?

I gave it a bit of a bash in campaign mode, finished a few levels, then quit. I came back later and by accident I just clicked "GDI Campaign" instead of "Resume Campaign" and it started me from the very start again.
Of course when I tried the resume option it was at the very start.

Apparently the game doesn't remember when you have completed a level under the specific game username, well not that I could see anyway...

Pretty asstastic if you ask me, f***ed if I am doing all that boring starting s*** again.

mp has been working ok for me. occasionally get disconnected but only in the lobby. havent been disconnected in-game yet. one click and 10 seconds im back in the lobby no dramas. at this stage i can live with that knowing that this bug will be corrected soon anyways.

im enjoying it heaps! i didnt like generals but certainly played ra2 heaps and heaps. its only going to get better the more people play it i say.

All resume campaign does is load the latest auto save. As if you'd rely on autosaves in any remotely time consuming game anyway.

man generals and Zero Hour were fkn awesome online, really good rock/paper/scissors type gameplay and balance. is CNC3 decent multiplayer? im still tossing up whether to get it or not. is it spam fest 9000 or does strategy still play a bit part

Most other strat games I have played record that you have finished the level once before and incase of this exact scenario or wanting to backplay a level it lets you choose to play any one up till the current completed level.

At the start of each level you get to choose the AI difficulty. Hypothetical situation: lets say you complete the first 5 on hard and get the gold medal, then you just can't seem beat 6 so you do it on normal and get a silver medal. You manage to finish the rest of the levels at hard and get gold medals for them.

Assuming you get some unlock/special thing/mad props for getting all the gold medals. You want to go back and retry that specific level to get all gold medals... is the only way to do this to start the entire campaign again??

What's MP? single player all the way! I've got WoW for my multiplayer gaming fix ;)

Rubba - There's an option to select what campaign you want to do from the 'mission select' screen. Haven't actually found myself wanting to do that yet, but I'd imagine you'll be able to pick whichever mission from that campaign you want..

I guess for your sake I can explain it in point form...

  • Dan locks a lot of threads for no reason

  • He talks a lot of s***

  • Has a superiority complex

Easier?

Hahaha. EA released this in March 2007 and it still doesn't work properly. Do I need to say anything else or can we just leave the EA pinata up for people to randomly bash for all time?

Nah, it's a year and a half thread that got bumped by a googler which for some yet to be determined reason prompted Mongie to start abusing me.
