yo! rockape here.
does anyone have an idea on how best to play movies on 2 pc's so they remain synced?
my gf lives in melb and i'm still in bris. we'd like to watch movies together on pc but coordinating the pausing and restarting would take a lot of the enjoyment out of it. it would be far better if one of us pausing and restarting would do so for both instances.
she's not much of a nerd so the easier it would be to use any prog that might do this, the better.
ps eat a bucket of aids.

Not only is it probably not possible - but why would you want to? Unless your watching porn or something.. tell her to watch Notting Hill in her own time!

There is web based remote control software, if that software could send to 2 clients instead of 1 .. bam

I'd think it was actually rather trivial. It wouldn't be perfectly in sync, but it'd be close enough for the purposes.

Saying "not possible" in the realm of software is a bit dangerous :)

Could probably write up a Python script to do the job, sending pause/unpause command over the net then sending the keyboard event to the DVD software. Obviously if you pause/unpause too much, you'll eventually go out of sync (due to net latency, difference in resume latency due to processor speeds, etc).

Also, the whole reason for needing this feature sounds lame.

Would vlc player do this? You'd stream the movie from somewhere (on a computer at your place) and then you'd be in charge of the pausing. She could tell you to pause if required via MSN.

Did you post about cameras a while back? Why don't you aim the camera at the movie and go from there.

You're rather mean you know. I would wager that if you're nicer you'd get more help. It would help to not talk about your girlfriend like that when she's so far away, she could turn into a stoper if you know what I mean.

I think I tried this once, watching my HDTV on the pc in my room using remote desktop, it cried about not being able to create a video window.

I'd say you'd have to use entirely software rendering of the video, no overlay no dxva and you'd need to have a pretty decent PC to do it. You're better off probably doing what that other guy suggested, use VLC and stream it to her PC or install windows media encoder on your PC (it's free), rip the movie to divx and stream it using that, it gives you control over quality to make the most of your pitiful upload bandwidth.

p.s. die.

I can't think of any easy way to do it rocko. I've never had to worry coz when I'm watching porn with your mum she's usually on all fours in front of me and I rest the remote on her back next to my beer.
