So I'm going for my boat license on Sunday and I'm wondering what to expect. Is it hard to get? What sought of exercises do I have to do on the day in order to get my license? Any related comments would be good.

Erm you have to be able to drive a boat competently and following the rules pretty simple

Can you actually fail the course? Like do you have to get it right straight away like a driving test?

I'm not sure on the specifics. I'd say so.

Gold.

I have had mine for nigh on 18 years and it was easy peasy. I don't know if it has changed since though.

8 Years ago for me, Open Book, Ask your neighbor the answer...

Lines from the instructor like "If you're unsure about question # I suggest re-reading *this book* *that page*"

Brother went ~2-3 years ago same deal.

I rocked up to get a boat licence and a PWC licence recently, about 6 months ago.

My day was as followed-

I arrived around 9 am where we sat through a brief slideshow on boat safety.

After about an hour we went out on the boat in the brisbane river. Each of us took a turn driving the boat with the instructor with us. Just showing us what to do.

Then we went back and sat through about 3 hours of theory work. What all the channel markers mean etc. After thta you do a small multiple choice question set on the theory. While your doing that they get your papers ready.

Then you sign some s*** and u got your licence.

I've got an international boat licence. It allows me to illegally travel (by sea) from Guantanamo Bay to Darwin and back.

what's involved in getting an international boat licence?

I'd imagine it wouldn't come easy and would require a referee or two...?

got mine about 2 years ago. same story. all day course.
i rolled up about 2 hours late. (big big night prior)

just listen to what is said. stuff like which life jackets suit which water craft, distances from other boats, swimmers, ramps etc.

we all took notes all day then he took the notes off us...?!

we did a prac in the arvo which uless your instructor is a nazi you pass that easy. (id never driven a boat before that day)

the theory test was all pretty cool. didnt get too much wrong except for the couple of hours of stuff i missed and it was all multiple choice so i got a lot of them by common sense.

noone in our group of about 10 people failed.

I got mine last year, easy as... We turned up one hour late but when we got there they were going through theory for a few hours. As they were going through the theory, we had it all summed up in our booklets and they pointed out which parts to highlight and remember for the exam. then took us out for a spin on the boat. Eeveryone took turns.. Wen't back to building and did a multiple choice exam. The exam was more of a group discussion almost. Everyone was huddled in like groups of 3-5 helping each other out, and if we didn't know, the lecturer would come around and help us.. Piece of cake.
