Hey all,
Need to buy a Toshiba Brand notebook hard drive for my friends A60 Toshiba Laptop - Apparently they only support Toshiba drives and "some" segate drives. Anywhere in brisbane I can purhcase them from? (Tried Umart, Gamedude, MSY, Computer Alliance - Umart can't order in, still waiting on MSY) |

I dont know for fact , but I find it really hard to believe that Toshiba or anyone else would find a way to make you buy only their brand of hdd. Do you have a small spare 2.5 hdd you could try to make sure you arnt being lied too?

I Also very much doubt that it will only work with toshiba and "some" seagate drives.
When they say support, do they mean support, as in "we will help you" or suppport as in "will only work with" Replaced a drive in a toshiba tecra a2 which had a toshia drive with a non-toshiba drive from umart, no problems. |

This drive PATA or SATA??
I have a 120GB SATA Hitachi HDD drive as well as several PATA drives you are welcome to try but I say BS. The only thing I can think of that you might need a tosiba brand HDD for is the security so that you can password lock the HDD. If data security isn't that much of an issue I would just try a different HDD. PM me if you want to try some other drives. |

Yeah I have already bought a Samsung 120gig and it didnt even recognise it in the bios. They say they only support 100gig, but I don't want to get hit with another 15% restocking fee.....
And the drive is PATA. I know 40gig drives work, might have to bite the bullet and buy a 100gig and see if it goes. I took it back to a laptop technician and they said certain laptops just don't like certain drives at all... |

lots of toshiba laptops have hitachi and fujitsu drives, I know for a fact.
I think you'll find that it would work fine. |

i think the 120g drive not working has more to do with an unsupported capacity then an unsupported manufacturer. |
