Any recommendations? After something that can play mp3s (and maybe .wmas) and has keyboard shortcuts for play/pause and speeding up/slowing down the speed of play. Basically its for listening to lecture notes for transcription (not for me).

I've tried VLC and it doesn't seem to have the keyboard shortcuts, though I'm still checking it out.

In VLC go to preferences -> interface -> hotkeys settings and there's keyboard shortcuts in there. At least there is on the windows version anyway.

so it does! unfortunately it seems to not work with this mp3 though - the playback is skipping, not sure why :/

Flip4Mac (QT WMA Plugin) or WMP9.

Front Row/iTunez for MP3 :P

VLC for everything else ;)

Yeah - VLC is what I use for flat mp3s / videos in OS X. iTunes for ripped albums.

Trog - other Mac software worth the download (IMO) is:
* Xee - image viewer that scrolls thru all pictures in the same directory with your mousewheel (+ heaps of other options);
* Install X11 off your OSX install CD & then grab the Gimp for all your image editing needs;
* Mac the Ripper - basic DVD ripping app;
* Tomato Torrent - simple to use, light-weight, no frills bittorrent client (doesn't use Java);
* jIRC - simple irc client very similar to MIRC;
* The IceTV dashboard gadget (shows the TV guides for each channel);
* A Telstra/Optusnet net usage dashboard gadget (shows your remaining quota etc);

...that's all I can think of while here @ work...

Ta guys; its not actually my Mac but I'm tasked to make it do stuff :|

VLC would be almost perfect here but for some reason it won't play these mp3s without skipping - really weird. They play fine in iTunes so I'm confident the media is OK.
