Running XP Pro,

Getting the following message popping up all the time:

RUNTIME ERROR

Microsoft visual basic c++

Program :C\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information

If I click "ok" on it, it closes any program I'm running. Massive pain in the ass.

I ran spybot search and destroy which picked up a few things, and promptly removed them. Problem persists.

I've googled, and although the problem is common enough, I can't find a solution that works. Please help.

Get this, check all the options (cept time and date) and let it run through.

Quite likely to fix the problem, tis a much loved tool I use at work that is very very successful in fixing niggly windows based problems just like this.

ta guys.

I'd like to format, but it's my grandads computer and he might have a fit about it.

Will try that program.

Also, he has a legit installation of XP pro, but he couldn't find his cd while I was there. If i install windowsupdate genuine advantage etc from the microsoft website, is it going to prompt me for a key? I don't want to not be able to find the cd/key and then have that genuine advantage unauthorised version of windows crap coming up everywere...

Firstly, if the CD Key is legit, then you will have no problems. The only problems a person should receive with legit keys is when the key has been activated too many times. Once that occurs, all it requires is a call to MS to get an activation code.

Secondly, can you provide any further information on what you were doing when the error occurred. From the error it appears that you were in IE at the time, and if so, is it the same site that throws the error, or does it happen on more than one site. Or, are you developing a site, using one of the visual studios?

Errors like these can occur from either corrupt of incompatible library files. You can manually replace dll's, which might fix the problem. Either way, some more info on what you were using when the error happened occurred would assist with determining a fix. It could also be something as simple as a setting that needs to be changed.

Hey guys. The error comes up just in windows when no programs are running, and also when any programs ARE running, including IE.

So yeah it just comes up all the time.

I tried to use automatic updates and it said there were 60 updates to be installed, but for some reason none of them were downloading. That's why i went to windowsupdate.com but i cancelled when i saw it was installing genuine advantage cos that thing is a pain in the ass if it thinks uve got a dodgey copy.

Will try it though.

Run dialafix already it can fix windows update problems as well.

BTW if you do attempt a repair using the CD you WILL need the key. If it is indeed a legit copy you have nothing to worry about with the WGA tool.
