Topic: Car Insurance: Und 25s vs Over 25s

That time of my life is just around the corner, where I turn a quarter of a century old *sob*

I got a quote for car insurance the other day and he kept saying "Oh, that will put it through the roof" everytime I asked for an option, and he made a large point when I said I was under 25.

Anyone know how much premiums change when you go over 25? Are we talking like halving the cost or just a few dollars off?

You're turning 50?

Also The only real thing that changed for mine was the excess, I didn't notice a drastic change in the premium itself.

My excess changed, premium stayed the same.

Grats on turning 50 though.

there isn't a big difference... it's just another insurance agent tactic to try & make the customer feel that thier ludicrously high premiums are warranted.

i'd also just like to say that everyone who said that i did need car insurance last year in my 'do you insure your car?' thread... you were all wrong. conclusively proven wrong by causality. hah! eggs on your faces now huh? :D

doesn't make that much difference to the cost.

the main difference is what kind of cars you can get insurance for and the excess you need to pay in the event of a claim.

man yor old

better keep your nails in elvis, coz you got no chance of picking up if he leaves now

and onto insurance

suncorp are substantially cheaper for insurance with imports, but will only insure you if you are over 25

we pay 800 bux a year for the skyline with all its mods

dunno what we would pay elsewhere, but its more

demon: are you implying that you're never going to drive a motor vehicle again? didn't you drive around unlicensed anyway? suprised you bothered paying insurance at all, it would've been void while unlicensed anyway

kat: shoulda asked the guy what difference in price he'd be quoting if you were 25.

I use suncorp also, am 34, and pay $700 or so p/a for an '05 nissan patrol st-l which is about 58k to replace, with about 20k or so of aftermarket gear attached. my excess is $350. Those figures are in spite of making 3 claims in the past 2 years.

jim: i dunno how you thought that was my implication but i'm sure you have some crazy angle, devoid of relevance or logic. ;] i didn't drive around unlicenced in the period i am talking about which is from the time of the original thread in january 2006 to now. i didn't pay full comprehensive insurance for this period either, didn't need it & saved myself over 600bux. orrrjeh. :D anyone want to take a bet for this next year?

I thought it was your implication because I didn't get that you were talking about the 12 month period from january to january when you said 'last year' - I thought you were meaning 'thread I made last year', until I re-read it just now.

i pay $1100 a year for my skyline, roughly $2k total excess (normal, vehicle and age - 22, turning 23 this year). Will make the switch to suncorp once i hit 25 probably.

i don't have compo as i am under 25

my car is worth 5k, third party property fire + theft = ~$220
Compo was like about a grand

I'm taking a bet that i will be better off not paying the extra $800

I don't think i'd f*** up my car over $800 worth every year

Even if i f*** it up for like $2000 once in three years, i'm still ahead.

if its anything over $2000 worth of damage (what i pay, cos i know mad panelbeaters) then i'll write the f***er off.

i reckon i'm winning.

I pay just over 1k for full comp for my Stagea insured at ~15k. My theft excess = poo cause my first car was flogged from right outside my house which makes it a hefty chunk higher :(

23 btw.

Jim & Spook's insurance does seem cheap.

I just did an online quote for our 2003 Camry and it came back $670 and it's worth around $20,000. Considering your cars are either worth more (like double +) or in a high risk category it doesn't make much sense to me. And that was Rating 1 for life.

It's currently insured with AAMI for $600.

$780/yr for an '06 VE SS-V through CGU. Excess is $500 though :(

Edit: And I'm over 25.
