Is there anything I can get to amplify a microphone on my PC? I have this nifty lapel mic I use for vent and stuff, so I can still use my good headphones at the same time, and its a really good quality mic but its just way too soft. Its not so much an issue with vent, cos it can amplify your outbound, but in games like, for example, Battlefield, the mic is so soft it hardly even registers.

I was just wondering if theres some kind of little amp I could plug the mic into to amplify it (not a full blown amp or anything cos all it really needs to do is just this one mic), or, if not, even some piece of software that could amplify the sound coming from the mic before it gets to other programs.

Shouldn't a little battery powered headphone amp be able to do it?

sometimes in the windows sound control you can tick use advanced controls and under the microphone click the advanced controls and sometimes you have a MIC +20db gain option. Tick that (if it's there, and if you haven't already) and see how it goes.

Make one.

Jaycar cell kits, you could quickly build a working amp and hook it up within the hour.

Yeah, I've already got mic boost on, even with that, its still way too soft. Its weird, the sound quality is really good, and the mic is really sensitive and picks everything up awesomely, but the output is just mega soft. One of those little battery powered amps sounds like the way to go, where would I get something like that? Dick Smith? Making one myself isn't really an option, I'm spastic at that sort of thing, I just know I'd f*** it.

eBay, or make one. Doesn't need to be a good one because the output sound quality for a lapel mic is crap (relative to what you'd want coming into your headphones).
