I was just looking on eBay for fishing gear and spotted an ad titled ' Scottish Sporting Estate with salmon fishing rights - Own land, fishing over a mile + Laird (Lord)/Lady title'
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Scottish-Sporting-Estate-with-salmon-fishing-rights_W0QQitemZ320068663635QQihZ011QQcategoryZ23815QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem So i went in to have a look, and for $49.95 you purchase some land in scottland against a river. The land you get however is 12*12 inches And the other things you receive for your money are: The Estate Transfer Pack includes: • A letter of introduction to the new landowner from the Managing Director of Lochaber Highland Estates. • An impressive, full colour A4 Land Title Deed, suitable for easy framing • Information and pictures about Lochaber. • Information and pictures about the River Spean and your fishing rights. • A colour map of Scotland detailing the precise Ordnance Survey map grid reference of "Laird's Wood" and location of your plot. • A plastic ID card (with signature strip), issued by Lochaber Highland Estates with your individual plot number on, to fit in your wallet, as a record of your purchase. and you get titled 'Laird' or 'Lady' Be a cool way to be able to say 'I own land in scottland', or use it as an asset to get a loan :p , i wonder what the bank would say if you tried.. |

Wouldn't America technically own the moon? They were there and Claimed it first.

I think the appeal is that in the UK you need a fishing license, but if your a land owner you can fish the area without a license. If I remember correctly the licenses are local county unlike Australian licenses which are state. But if I wrong (can't be assed google) I know for a fact that the UK has County based fishing licenses... :)
I'm tempted just so I can be Laird when I go to the Rugby this year... :) " Thats Laird not convict peasant!" |

@Scooter
Actually the Russians where the first to land a probe on the moon, and the first to take a photo from the moon, and the first to move around on the moon with their probes Luna 2-10, Luna 1 was the first man made object to orbit the moon. Also even though the US is the only nation so far to have had manned missions to the moon, the did not claim sovereignty over the moon, to date no nation has. |

No nation would dare.
For all ages of mankind, almost every human has looked upon the moon. It is for everyone and everything, just as the sun is. So the Earth should be too. |

From the people @ the site:
Scottish land registry laws are different then in most countries in the world, which is what makes this offer available (and why you won't find it in other countries) The Land Registration (Scotland) Act 1979 section 4(2b) specifically states that land that is "a souvenir plot, that is a piece of land which, being of inconsiderable size or no practical utility, is unlikely to be wanted in isolation except for the sake of mere ownership or for sentimental reasons or commemorative purposes" does not need to be registered in the land registry because it would tie up there time with lots of small plots. In fact no land in Scotland needs to be registered to be owned by the new person, and registration is optional (tho highly desirable if you want to get a mortage on it). Land sales in this country are governed by contract law and specifically The Requirements of Writing (Scotland) Act 1995 You wil be given a copy of the contract as drawn up by lawyer that certifies you as the owner of the land. If you have further questions please do not hesitate to get in touch. You may be interested in seeing our Australian site www.scottishhighlandestates.com Laura |
