Are the controllers that come with it wireless by default?

In the tech release movie where they were showing off the power of the 'awesome' ps3 controller the presenter kept crashing the plane because of the s***ty implementation they did with it.

This reminds me of an award the playstation won years ago for it's graphical advancements.
The console was honoured with the Outstanding Achievement in Technology and Advanced New Media award for its early work on 3D polygon-based gaming.

Do decent emmys get handed out from time to time, or are they all like these?

It doesn't need to be recharged much, and the ability to turn the console off using the pad as a sort of remote control

sounds like the 360 controller :S

The only problem I have with the Wii controllers is that they use AA batteries instead of a recharge pack, but apart from that, its far, far more innovative and worthy of an award than the PS3 one. I had a go with the PS3 one at GCAP and while its not a bad controller, its really just a wireless PS2 controller that you can tilt, with a new "PS button" in the middle which can be used to access the menu (and I'd assume power it up or turn it off), ala the XBox 360 guide button.

Ha!
Unless Sony did some magical piece of technological wizardry inside the controller, Nintendo deserve that award.

Can't you just use rechargeable AA batteries with it khel? I use those nimh things in my rc car controller & powers*** camera, they last quite a while. I'm sure there's even more advanced rechargeable batteries out there now that last even longer.

I tried some rechargeable batteries in my Wii controller and it completely devoured them in a couple of hours; they had a significantly shorter lifespan than even the crappy generic batteries that came packaged with the controller. So I dunno if thats indicative of how it treats all rechargeable batteries or if they were just crappy rechargeable batteries, but I use those energizer E^2 platinum batteries in it now and they last ages.

I made a long post in a past Wii thread (QGL search doesn’t find it) about my experiences with rechargeables.
Short story is, they have been lasting me up to 10 hours of play before needed a recharge.

hahah this is a joke, don't you need to plug the sixaxis into the ps3 when you power it on otherwise it doesn't recognize it?

the sixaxis is like the wii and the ps3 controller had babies and then those offspring interbred and produced a retarded child that has to be taught how to breath when it wakes up every morning.

Powertech 2400mAh Nickel Metal Hydride > *

cheapest, and longest lasting NMH rechargable I found yet. 'sif use oldskool pre-90's battery technology for computer gear

I scored some 'POWERhaus 2000' mAho from the Int Airport a couple of years ago pretty cheap too - not as good as the P-techs from JayCar, but pretty damn good all the same. Good coffee out there too =)

I agree that the lack of recharge packs for the Wii is one of it's main downsides, and rechargable batteries are lacklustre at best. That's why I'm waiting on one of these:

I'd offer Sony a shovel to help them dig their own grave, but it seems they already have dynamite.
