Kotaku are reporting - apparently in all seriousness - that a class action suit is being filed against Nintendo because of Wii-related damage caused by broken wrist straps:
Owners of the Nintendo Wii reported that when they used the Nintendo remote and wrist strap, as instructed by the material that accompanied the Wii console, the wrist strap broke and caused the remote to leave the user's hand. Nintendo's failure to include a remote that is free from defects is in breach of Nintendo's own product warranty.
There are of course a million jokes that can be made about the forearm development of the average gamer, especially as it relates to gripping objects. That hilarity aside, short of the strap snapping and the resulting explosive force actually being sufficient to sever the hand from the wrist, it seems a little bit weird to not wonder why these people don't just, like, hold on to the controller while they're flailing their arms wildly.

ahaha

I'm no lawyer, but I do know that nowhere in the "material that accompanied the Wii console" was anyone "instructed" to act like a complete and utter spaz.

I can't work out how people are throwing these things across the room. I don't have any problems holding onto the controller but i have tried not to play it drunk because i don't want to risk it.

perhaps when noobs are playing bowling and they think they should release the control like in RL bowling?

This is ridiculous, but I'm actually surprised it took this long for the lawsuits to appear. Nintendo had acknowledged the issue right after launch and all consoles shipped now have the thicker strap.

I even checked the straps on mine. The one that came with the console is thinner than the one in Wii Play pack. It is pretty retarded case though, as there are warnings throughout the Wii Sports and Wii Play games about clearing space to play and ensuring they are careful. And even the warning Nintendo recently put on their website.

those warnings can also be used as an admission of guilt

lol, I hate people.

It's tossers like this that will eventually cause the world to be covered in bubble wrap and nothing even remotely fun being released.

I didn't even know the Wii had a strap till a few days ago, I thought it was just like holidng a standard remote... even if it didn't have a strap and I somehow let go of the controller and it hurt someone/broke my TV... it's my own fault.

This reeks more of lawyers seeing an opportunity to go after big dollars and organising it off their own back rather than a concerted effort of concerned citizens to change the world.
