Basically I was playing Texas Hold Em with a bunch of tossers (read: cheaters), it was not my house and I was the guest to the party (this is a big point) and the majority of these people were strangers.

The buy in was $20 each for $2000 in chips, quite friendly.

My main complaint, the cut was not offered, at all, on everyhand.

One of the guys was doing his last shuffle (slowly) as a riffle shuffle before he dealt, and obviously staring at the card location intently.

So I speak up, "I request a re-shuffle"... this stops the game... he declines to reshuffle at all. I do not accuse someone of cheating (that's a major call)... so I didn't even question "Why don't you want to do a reshuffle".

Then I request a cut (to possibly make it fairer), he declines the cut... he did not offer it in the first place. He would not budge on this point.

I ask that my chips be refunded (I had over the $20 I started with) so I could leave the table. He refused and said I wasn't allowed to cash in the chips this early and if I leave I forfeit the money.

I got pretty angry at this point, and conflict started... basically since it was their place I was outnumbered and left before I got my face smashed in.. $20 poorer.

I don't know if I'm wrong, but I thought you're allowed to request a reshuffle (maybe not?)... but I'm 100% sure that you must offer the cards to a person, they can decide whether to cut or not.

Lessons learned, people are f***wits.

Yeah you should've played on anyway just in case you beat the losers. Something definitely up with him not wanting to let you cut it. Fair enough he cbf reshuffling but at least let a cut happen. Thats stupid man. And yeah at the wild turkey tournaments I think you have to cut so its fair...Oh well lesson learned- Don't play poker with strangers (unless ofcourse its a tournament).

So he's allowed to outright cheat (this riffle is so slow that he see's the location over every card), I'm not allowed to take my money and leave?

I was no aware of these rules before I sat down.

If I was allowed to take my money, no problem... I respect the whole "house rules" thing even if it's blatantly stupid.

Like can I make my house rules that that dealer is allowed to look through the deck before dealing? That's what a slow riffle with no cut is equivalent to.

And if I'm looking through the deck, nobody is allowed to leave early or else they forfeit there chips.

I got scammed, lesson learned, but don't believe for one second that they were in the right.

Seems like it had nothing to do with poker and at any point they could stand up and rob me like I was walking down the street.

Never going to do that again, back to the Casino where it's fair.

f***em ... you always cut during a shuffle ... fair enough if they were newbs and didn't know, but if that was the case they wouldn't have been dicks about it.

don't play poker with those fags again.

Let me explain this riffle shuffle.

It's approx 7 or so seconds long at a guess (my riffle 1/4 second), the last 6 or so cards he spends 2 full seconds riffling them.

So instantly he knows 100% in his mind, 1 card each player has.
f***em ... you always cut during a shuffle
That's not always the case, you offer the cut... they can tap it to signify no cut, cut it, or offer it to the next player along for the cut.

CHUB I would feel the same as you. Its sucks that you had to lose your money to work out never to play in that game again. Also, start your own home game.

Yeah, you don't get away with cheating at the casino... and if you do, you're risking getting blacklisted.

Auto boot out of every casino in Australia and a lot of oversea's ones too.

yea but at the casino u gotta pay $1 a hand just to see your cards, and that dollar from each player doesnt go in the pot it goes straight to the casino.

haha i find this extremely hilarious. You're like a random at some dude's house and u call them out for cheating hahaha. They sound dodgey as, but the scenario is funny. "I request a re-shuffle". hahaha i can just imagine a game with my mates and some random and them saying that, and the looks on everyone's faces hahaha

good on ya tho. took balls.

I just have to ask, how'd you end up in this house? I believe that if you went with one friend who invited you into the game, it was up to him to ensure you were up with house rules. After that, you can't really say anything about the way they play, but what sort of game are the other four or five people wanting to play in if they're condoning cheating?

Information: It was a 9 player game

I knew 2 guys (they are friends and took me there), the other 6 I've never met in my life. My friends were friends with some of the other players, but not the host.

Also can anyone not understand a 7 second riffle shuffle (like I said mines 1/4 second tops, anything over 1 second is suss) with your face right down at the table, staring intently at it.

It's literally no better then searching through the deck before you deal, so I don't see how you can claim house rules, it's flat out obvious cheating to EVERYONE involved, there is NO question at all about it.

Never play a game of poker with strangers without establishing if there are any variations on the rules at the venue BEFORE you buy in.

it is the shuffle where you cut the deck in two and then bend up the corners of each half and release them so the corners from each half interleave with each other.

The Right to Re-Shuffle: Players have the right to a reshuffle before they are cut & dealt in a rotating game. The person to the immediate right of the dealer (the dealer will now be shuffling after his previous deal) has the right to reshuffle & cut the deck. The dealer has the right to the *final* shuffle. This shuffling and re-shuffling can go back and forth until both parties are satisfied the deck is sufficiently shuffled.

So anyone can request a re-shuffle but it is to be done by the cut-off (player in the seat immidiately to the right of the dealer button). Anyone who takes more than a second to riffle shuffle is either a) noob; b) haxing; or c) a noob haxor. You won't see a mechanic (professional cheat) taking this long to riffle the cards. They don't need to. But these noobs sound like they don't know what they are doing. Go here for a list of home/uni poker games run by members of the Queensland Poker Network in and around Brisbane:

http://www.pokernetwork.com/homeClubPoker_topic.cfm

You won't get scammed in any of these games. Sorry you got stung. Can't believe they didn't give you a refund. You should have stayed and performed your own 10 second riffle shuffle + no cut. See if they like it...

riffle strip riffle riffle strip riffle riffle cut!

he may have just wanted to riffle them perfectly one on top of another, but doesn't explain why he wouldn't want you to cut them

when you sit at that table, ask to be put on the list for the commission table too where they take 10% capped to $10 from the pot after the river betting. so it's max $10 commission but you can fold for free preflop

Good on ya for leaving and not taking that s***; I wouldn't play with a bunch of poor sports like that who refused to cut for the new guy. If that's standard poker etiquette that's pretty lame.

Also why leave when you could have sat down and finished it, possibly having a chance of leaving with the pot. They sounded too nub to be cheating with any success.

I'm definite if I was winning... they would of probably smashed me up anyway and took my money.

I doubt they would let me leave with $180.

On a related note... I just got "Bicycle" poker cards from a magic shop in Sydney that everybody recommended in the sleight of hand thread.

These feel serious orgasmic, I can't even believe it... if you play cards at all, shell out the money for these.

That situation totally sucked, but there's not much you can do at home poker games. House rules win. Get some mates together to play some, it's way more fun.

The thing with bicycles I think is that they will wear out too quickly if you play poker with them a lot, they are probably easier to mark too. But they are really nice for sleight of hand stuff.

If you want orgasmic for poker cards get some copags: http://www.pokershop.com.au/

Thanks a lot youngnasty! These cards are expensive and purely for sleight of hand, they would probably be unusable for magic after a few hands of poker with people peeking and bending.

I was just about to ask for good quality cards FOR poker only :)

let him do a noob riffle...

then when its your shuf turn do a 52 card deck rem riffle.. and smoke there asses

unless you pull a bad rotation.. then its bad luck...

if i was playing a real game of poker and some fag riffled i would pull my bet

although i have seen some sweet 1 card manouvers that can put any card to the bottom of the deck then be delt of the top.. in the end never trust a human shuffler unless ur a scammer and know what to look for

find devils handbook by derren brown for some f***in sweet card manipulation including card counting and card placement in a deck

also any game where a player can bend a corner to 'see' what he has is open to cheating.. a good stacker can do 52 bends on 52 cards and tell the difference between them all

Is that the bottom deal? If so it's amazing... but apparently extremely hard to master.
