4 months in the planning, 3 weeks in the building, and $11000 later ($13000 if you count my new Dell monitor) I finally have my new system up and running. A huge thanks to Tim, Koopz, rubba-chikin, Peter, Troy and all the guys down at Computer Alliance who had a hand in helping me out with the system. Those that remember my old set up use to consist of 7-8 PC’s and laptops, but now I’ve streamlined my set up to just 3 PC’s. My new beast is as follows -

*Intel S775 Core 2 Extreme QX6700 Quad-Core CPU
*BFG nForce 680i SLi Motherboard
*DDR2 4GB Geil 1000MHz Dual Channel Ram
*Internal 12in1 Memory Card Reader
*74 GB WD Raptor 10000rpm 16MB serial ATA HD
*74 GB WD Raptor 10000rpm 16MB serial ATA HD
*320 GB Western Digital YS 7200rpm 16M SATA HDD 24x7
*BFG GeForce 8800GTX 768M PCIe Video Card
*BFG GeForce 8800GTX 768M PCIe Video Card
(You gotta love SLi)
*Dell 30” 3007WFP UltraSharp Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor
*Hauppauge Nova T500 Dual HDTV Tuner
*Gigabyte 3D Aurora Aluminum Case
*Tagan 1100 Watt Power Supply
*Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard
*Logitech G7 Cordless laser Mouse
*Pioneer DVR-111D 16xDVD DL Burner
*LiteOn 16x DVD Drive
*Creative X-Fi Platinum Sound Card
*Zalman CNPS9500 LED CPU Heatsink
*Intergrated Gigabit Network Connection
*MS Windows Media Center Edition with Remote

I also picked up the following-
*Powerware 5110/1500VA Line Interactive UPS
*Canon PIXMA MP800 Multifunction Printer
*Canon IXUS 65 Digital Camera

Well considering your a dual screen user. I suggest going to http://exoteric.roach.org/bg/index.html and read his faq so you can download some dual backgrounds. Theres PLENTY there.

nice setup btw. How many frames per second you get in quake2?

I don't use dual screens, each wide screen has its own pc (2 for gaming and one for movies, dvd's etc), and I've never played quake2 in my life. I just got the new system this morning, and went out and got myself Battlefield 2142, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter (actually it was free with the motherboard), Gothic 3, as well as Company of Heroes and Medieval II Total war the other week in preperation of getting this new rig. With a resolution of 2560 by 1600, finding decent wallpapers is a bitch, so any free sites you may know of feel free to post them =)

2 pc's for gaming (I use one of them for web browsing, downloading stuff too, my new rig is nothing but a gaming machine) and one for viewing media (dvd's, movie files, music etc). And yes it is a foot massager, being on my feet for 8 hours a day not stop gets a bit tiring, so when I'm sitting back unwinding I like to relax. I also have a shiatsu massager for the chair =)

I do have a fourth pc, but I'm giving that to my nephew for christmas.

I have to tell you too, I've been giving this machine a canning all day with every game I can find (The Battle for Middle Earth 2(Witchking expansion), Company of Heroes, Medieval 2, Warhammer Mark of Chaos, Dawn of War: Dark Crusade, BF 2142 and WoW) with the resolution maxed to 2048x1536 and every setting set to the highest, and it hasn't missed a beat! Its almost like playing some of these games for the first time again they look so good.

Yes I might be crazy, but this is how I unwind. =)

I heard that with current games nothing can push a system enough to get much out of 2 8800s as opposed to 1. Probably with crazy resolutions there is though.

This just reminded me of something when i used to play WoW.

Some people were complaining about some guy who had 5 (maybe 6 i can't remember) characters which he played all at once. He played 5 mages, and he had 5 computer's all with the same specs and everything. He controlled them all using a wireless mouse and keyboard, and all the receivers were set to the same frequency.

Was interesting at the time.

Man, as if rag on Tanaka.

The setup is tidy as, I love that desk + the return, it is really really nice.

Props man, it's your hobby and you enjoy spending time there, if it makes YOU happy then it's money well spent.

Other people have pretty retarded 'spendings' on here so it's not like most of you can talk.

nF can't afford to run his car but still has it (sidepipe lol :P)
I have a retardedly inefficient car.
eK is on his umptieth engine from retarded engine breakages.
Whoop has the kingswood he spends time/money on.
Hemmy, Spook, Fireblood, Rev and god knows who else like to induldge in certain medications :P
Kat has retarded personalised plates on some random POS with subs so big the pram won't fit.
Many people piss away that much on alcohol per year because it's their idea of fun.

Just because all of these may not amount to the same $$ dollar $$ value as Tanaka, doesn't make them any less retarded, the reason why people do it are all the same, hobbies, interests, fun or socialising keep people sane and happy.

Nice rig dude.

Props to that setup TK. I plan on doing a decent enough upgrade in the near future, but with a few financial setbacks (house!) it looks like I'll have to spend my time drooling over other people's PCs instead of getting one for myself. Dual 8800s must cain like no tomorrow.

Apart from keeping Computer Alliance in business? hehehe

seriously would I see much improvement by taking out my two 7800gts XFX cards and dropping in a couple of 8800gtx's? bearing in mind I am only running a AMD 64 dual core 4800+ Toledo to feed them the numbers.

I was getting itchy upgrade fingers recently until I realised that I am putting 30-40 k to one side for hardeware in my uber home theatre/concert/gaming room in our new house project...so my old computer will have to do me at least another year.

What kind of car is that on your desktop d[o_0]b?

While asking about cars, on mtv cribs - chester from linkin park has this car out his front yard, and he said its name, sounded like Mollen/Mullin/Molen/Molin Eleven (i think), sound familiar to anyone? He said that you can get them custom made anywhere you want, and the logo on the car is similar to that of a mazda, however the M is in the center of the circle instead of joining to the outsides. Just looking for piccies of this car, but can't work out what it is - looks similar to a lotus.

and my screenshot (it should be clickable):

Jeramiah, I'm single atm, but what makes me laugh is the guys saying I could have gotten girlfriends/laid with that money instead of buying a computer. I don't know the type of girls they hang out with, but I've never had to flash my bank balance to pick up.

Assuming you weren't being sarcastic, prolly cos that card costs a lot more for very little gain (X-Ram does not much at all, apparently).

Well considering he spend 13k on a system, I didnt think he'd be worried about an extra $200 or whatever...

True. My guess is that CA doesn't stock the card.

Man... That must be a wicked machine, and i'm sure its great for you Tanaka, but to me it just seems like such a massive waste of money on material possession that will be outdated in a few years.

Just think, with that kinda money you could be drinking body shots off hookers in the south of mexico right now.

True, but the same can be said about almost everything you buy these days. As soon as you drive a car off the lot it starts depreciating in value. Pretty much every form of electrical device will become outdated. I think the only really safe purchase you can make these days (and see a return) is property, but even then I've known of some people to go belly up in that market.
