Umm, has anyone seen both of these movies?

I was just reading the synopsis for The Descent http://www.greaterunion.com.au/movies/movie.asp?movie=5774 and it sounds EXACTLY the same as The Cave http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0402901/plotsummary which was released in 2005.

I'm talking EXACTLY the same. I've seen The Cave which was a good crap-dvd to watch when ur bored. Anyone seen The Descent? Any good?

I think I saw about 10 minutes of "the cave" and you're right, it is a crap dvd but I was nowhere near bored enough to watch it all the way through.

There's been heaps of monsters in a cave** type movies/shows. Hell I remember an episode of the original Dr. Who that was similar.

** I hereby trademark "monsters in a cave" anyone wishing to make a movie (preferably starring samuel L jackson) called monsters in a cave must hereby give me half of all monies earned.

Well yeah, similar except that The Descent is 100x better than The Cave...

The monsters in "the cave" can fly...the descent ones can't but yeah other than that same kinda thing. Where was the lesbian scene during the slumber party?

The Decent is a million times better than The Cave. Atmosphere is awesome.

The Decent rocked, but it was released in the states like last year or very early this year (we always get the ass end of releases).

I saw the english version of The Descent, which has the extended ending... it was pretty well done IMO. Spilunking (sp?) looks scary as hell.

I saw The Descent a couple of weeks ago - it wasn't too bad. I'd recommend seeing it if u want something a bit different.

I was so about to write a review of this:O I saw the Descent last night in a fairly empty cinema. f***ING SCARY s***!

For those of you who care, it's made by the same dude who did Dog Soldiers, but it looks like they might have had a slightly larger budget in this one. As with Dog Soldiers, the movie starts off with a couple of scares here and there that have nothing to do with what's really about to happen. I thought it was going to be a good enough movie just watching them try to make their ways through the caves - that bit was tension building enough, but then of course you have to have some horror themes going as well.

The Caves is only similar to the extent that they are underground when the bad stuff happens. Completely different style of film, very different characters, different technology etc. If you didn't like Caves, see the Descent - it's how it should be. The Caves is a more typical Hollywood style film, while the Descent is much more indie, gritty and dark.

4 stars.
