Scaplers ebaying tickets has been brought up before here so i thought some would find this interesting.

eBay claims the promoters are breaching trades practices legislation by tightening their ticketing conditions, Melbourne's Herald Sun reports.

The changes mean Big Day Out tickets brought from eBay will not be valid if promoters can track down the reseller through ticket numbers, ticketing agencies or credit card details, and void the tickets.

From AustralianIT

I was just waiting for a promoter to do this and I think they are within their rights. The tickets/show are their product and they should be able to control how they are sold.

Good work BDO.

I think the tickets should only be invalid if people sell them for more they what they're worth.

so you believe if you buy tickets to a show, and you cannot go, you cannot sell the tickets at the SAME price you bought it at?

No. They should be able to sell them for what they retail for, not what they paid for them.

IMO, they should use a simular system to flights. Where if you miss your plane or can't make your flight your seat goes to the next in queue on standby and you get a credit/refund.

scalpers rarely if ever sell the tickets for the same price at which they purchased the tickets originally. It's usually at greatly inflated prices

But the problem here isnt scalpers, its legitimate ticket sellers that wont be able to get rid of their tickets in the case that they cant go

sorry, retail.

so if i bought my BDO ticket for $120, and the second release of BDO tickets come through at $150, i should then be able to sell my ticket for $150, as that is what they retail for, right?

your flight ticket system sounds good, but i cant see BDO forking out that much money to set up a system like that, when they can just screw people over this way instead :)

no you should get a full refund of what you paid, and THEN the BDO corporation gets to sell it for 150.

Oh geez -- anything that stops scalping is a GOOD thing, ffs.

If you have a ticket that you want to sell for cost price - flog it off to a mate or something.

i do agree that scalping is bad, but a blanket ban on tickets being sold on is a pretty f***ed thing

it wouldn't be BDO or the promoter's system, it would be tickettek/ticketmaster's system.

You can't compare concert ticket vending to airlines. Airlines can afford to wear the price of refunds, concert promoters tread a much finer line of profitibilty for most events.

And if Ticketek implemented a system like that it would just fall back on the promoter as an extra service charge. Your ideas might be well meaning but they aren't reasonable solutions imo.

I think Ticketek's current policy is fine, you're permitted to re-sell tickets on ebay as long as you don't list them at a profit. BDO however have gone completely nazi on their T&C's this year also recording the names and signatures of every purchaser. It's way overboard and they probably deserve a bit of a slap for it.

This is strange because I always figured that ebay was in kahootz with the ticketing agencies and exchanged info like credit card numbers, names, addresses etc.

Because I got busted for selling some homebake and field day tickets not too long ago. I didn't post ticket number or pictures of them etc. So I figured the only way they could have tracked me down was that ebay let ticketek see my credit card registered on ebay, and ticketek matched it as the same credit card used to buy the tickets from them.

Cos I had some other tickets bought with another credit card that weren't cancelled.

That being said, ticketek just refunded my money anyway which was all the I was after. Was just a pain refunding all the buyers and the fees from ebay were a slut.

Hate to admit it, but I think BDO have come up with the simplest way to deal with the problem.

The amount of time and money to implement a 'what if' system does not make it worthwhile. I think this solution has the least amount of ambiguity, and is least subject to misinterpretation by the resellers.

If something so tragic or important comes up that you can't make the event you bought a ticket for, you should be happy if you're able to sell them on for what YOU paid.

nah thats totally wrong. airlines will not give a refund if they can't find someone to fill the seat. profit margins with large concert events i'm sure are far greater than they are for airlines.

How hard is it really to get rid of tickets that you can't use??? Not very IMO. Email all your mates and if the concert is sold out then you'll get a reply in about 15 minutes. If it's not sold it could be a little more difficult, so you lower the price and lose a bit of money, a small cost for securing the right to go to the concert.

Tickets shouldn't be auctioned. I don't care if they're sold on Ebay for the price that was paid for them - fine. Concerts should be available to all the fans, not just the ones with a lot more money than everyone else.

I think a better system is, find the details of the scalpers and break their kneecaps.

I'm not joking at all.

Splendour got it right. Make people put in personal details when buying tickets, like Full name and DOB, then have the details printed on the ticket. You need to show photo ID when rocking up to the festival.

Le Cock that is *most* interesting. Under the privacy laws introduced by the Federal Gov't a few years ago, it is a federal offence for companies/corporations to trade/swap personal data of this nature. If you can prove that you didn't take pictures/photos of your tickets you would go along way towards establishing a civl case against ebay & spledour etc. Dunno if any lawer types troll/post this forum but that is astounding if it's true.

I'm pretty sure there is something in the Trade Practices Act against leaking credit card details etc. Probable state legislation too. If you could find the original ebay link with your tickets on it (if it still exists) that don't show the numbers/details, this would help.

Depends how pissed off you are. I would be livid <=====pun inteded! :D
