U2 would have to be the most overrated band ever.

Don't get me wrong, they do some good tunes every now and then, but nothing earth shatteringly amazing.

I dunno, i'm just not a fan and I can't see why so many people get so worked up about a good band, when there are so many other good bands that don't get as much attention.

Saw the completed rig today, its f***ing massive!

Just to put it into perspective there are 80 FOH speakers per side of the stage, then 32 subs, per side, each box weighs in at 240kg and they arrived in 4x 40 foot shipping containers (and that excludes amplifiers, desks and control gear). Which is just a bulls*** amount of PA to have. And the rear of the stage is made up of a massive low-res video wall which i'm sure will look very impressive.

All in all looks like its gonna be one hell of a show.

Think of the logistics of that pedestrian traffic an how many punters there will be an then think of Kessels Rd

But there have been many other concerts and events held there that have never required Kessels Road being shut down (I can't think of one other time it was ever closed down, and thats after 15 years of driving up and down that road 8-10 times a night for work). Many football games, Madonna (going back years), Bon Jovi etc.

they f***ing love u2 over here (i'd say they'd be the second largest export, behind guiness??)

every f***ing pub you go into has at least 2-3 songs an hour playing of them, it gets kinda a bit annoying.

that said i do like some of their stuff, but they over do it here

but i have drank in Bono's pub - yes making him even richer :/

U2 had some OK songs back in the 80's but the s*** they release now is just awful. Any band with a member called "the edge" gets the most pretentious band ever award.

They suck for the way they buttrape their fans. Faking a family illness so they can significantly delay their Australian tour to time it so they can protest the G20 economic meeting in melbourne on our expense is sickening. I'll never give U2 any of my money again. They can take their politics and talk it up each others arses. If they want to protest do it on their own dime and time. They were paid to come here to perform not 'bring the fight' to the evil capitalist masters of the G20.

I hope you guys that are going enjoy the 20 minute political diatribe you'll get bang smack in the middle of your rock concert.

Producer: How can we make this guitar riff more gay?
Edge: Turn the reverb and delay up
Producer: They're already on 10
Edge: I don't care, more delay!!

Sums up my U2 experience.

Well I just gave 1 example of a band that's been playing for over 20 years that owns U2.

Didn't Anthony Callea or whatever get the biggest selling single ever or something? By your logic he's the best artist.

Well people are comparing the fact that the number of hits someone has or the overall popularity reflects the quality of someones music.

So I offered an example of someone that was hugely popular, but s*** :)

Anyway, enough of my derailing.

Farking unbelievable although thanks to the organisers for completly f***ing up the transport system at the end of the show. Nothing like 60,000+ people trying to find their way home with no signs or information. The queues for the buses back to the city was ridiculous and I spent longer in that then the entire trip to the concert and getting in.

Coupled with what appeared to be randomness to whether you were being dropped of at Adelaide St or Roma St which was fun when our group of 4 got split up and 2 got the next bus which went to Roma St while we went to Adelaide St.

The only good thing was a bunch of guys beside me that were pretty funny, cracking jokes at bus drivers, people, etc - and then these two dudes mooned us as they drove past and one was a chick, could almost make out the meaty parts.

My next bitch is about the booze stands, I bought a bunch of tickets at when I finally got into the GA area so I could just skip the buying line later. About half way through the show I went to cash in my $7 red spirits ticket for some juicy nectar only to find the bar closed and no refunds available, f***ing scamming c***s stealing my money.

* Photos taken with camera - don't expect works of art.

Line up to get into the GA section which doubled by the time I got to join the line and almost quadrupled by the time I worked my way through it.

I'm probably note gonna be popular for saying this but... I was kinda bored at the concert. Let me explain more...

When they postponed back in March I went and got myself the Vertigo live in Chicago tour DVD and watched it, and I was totally blown away by how awesome it was and it psyched me up even more to see them live.

But then watching them live, it was exaclty the same as the DVD even down to the 20 minute politcal spam in the middle. I don't know why, but I expected something big and awesome, and all I felt I got was sloppy seconds.

And all this talk about a big surprise, what was that? Was it the "Free David Hicks" rant or the didge player? Either way, not much of a bonus.

Not wanting to whinge for my whole post, the music was great and the sound where I was sitting back just to the side of the cover of the stands was freakin fantastic. They played the tunes so well (although I felt at times that Bono wasn't really trying and took shortcuts vocally) and the crowd had an awesome vibe.

But like I said, I don't feel like I got what I paid for. Compared to the Fooeys who I saw last year who put on a great show, I wouldn't see U2 live again (with the exception of some sort of VIP setup naturally, cause that'd rock).

It was mainly spaced out throughout the concert. I guess the fact that I agree with a lot of the ideals mean I didn't mind it at all, and I don't see why someone like Bono shouldn't use his position of influence over a mass audience to air his views. It's not like he's forcing anyone to sign up to anything, you either agree or don't. Music has been used as a vehicle for social change in the past and I like that someone is bucking the current trend of vacuous pop stars to actually say something meaningful.

I read about it in the news. Two days after i heard that the U2 concert date had been announced i noticed the G20 meeting was on at the same time. Then we started to hear about U2 possibly doing a free concert in melbourne to support the G20 protesters.. you know, to boost the numbers so that the protests get SOME attention and look like they have more support when really it'd just be people that missed out on U2 tickets.

If the G20 meeting wasn't publicly known about back when U2 canned the aussie event, i guarantee they had inside goss on its Melbourne/2006 location. We already know that the 2007 meeting will be in South Africa.

I work in IT so i don't believe in coincidence.

Read in the paper this morning that Suncorp is now the preferred venue by the council for all concerts. Turns out Suncorp had a restriction on concerts prior to U2 booking QEII. The restriction was lifted a couple of months ago which is why Robbie Williams is now playing there.
