THE Queensland government is launching an ambitious bid to bring cutting edge internet broadband technology to the state.

Under the plan, homes, businesses and schools would enjoy technology at least 100 times faster than regular broadband, Premier Peter Beattie said.

Good news it seems for the fibre to the home plan. In a nutshell the government will allow private companies to use government infrastructure like railway ducting, water easements, power lines, etc to lay fibre all around Brisbane. It'd be pretty ace if this got off the ground after the collapse of Telstra's $4bil fibre network and even more so ace that if it does happen, we would be striding ahead of our Southern cousins in the technology stakes.

the biggest problem here is the cost to the consumer. it may be 100 times faster than current broadband, but its probably going to be a large factor more expensive too, as they recoup their costs early on

im all for broadband to compete with the rest of the world, but i want to know that there the download limits and the costs would be reasonable as well.
