Check this new Bravia HDTV from Sony. EYO have them listed at $6995 and the cost size performance value is pretty bloody good when you consider a 55" Fujitsu Plasma is about a grand dearer.

Yes it is a rear projection jobbie but from the specs and the feedback being reported by a few in the world who have one thus far, the performance is stunning. A guy in Germany posted a whole ton of pics of his arrival and set up of his beast, the IQ in everything looks awesome. But as you know a common problem with the rear projecion technology was the horrible performance and IQ from off-axis psoitions, so he took a couple of pics to show you what the newfangle Sonysrxd technology can do...I reckon these angles would be just about 'off-axis' as anyone could possibly sit in relation to the unit in any normal situaion. Check the IQ.

As far as can be figured from the digital Oz forums they are due to hit Australia any day now and I give you a heads up here because if you were in the market for a unit that size (they have a 60" model as well) I reckon they would most defineately be worth checking out. I know I will be that's for sure. The German dudes page linked to in this post has a ton of pics of the units performance in movies, games ect...even his old Nvidia ti4600 throws up a pretty good image on the beast. :)

Oh and the xbox360 gaming images really do look sweet, would be awesome playing on a 70 inch screen @ 1080p

Not sure what good 1080p is, the Wii only does 480p so it seems kinda a waste of 600 lines :)

Oh... there are other uses for TV?

hehe YET. It certainly is enticing a 2.5ms response time, no type of burn in issues whatsoever ect.. I just want to see one in the flesh and find out about bulb replacement cost and stuff before I even think about buying one. But like I said when you compare the price/screen size and the benefits it has over plasma/LCD it is pretty enticing. Admittedly it doesn't have the slimline profile of the plasmas/lcd but all too often I see people who have plasmas and they don't have them wall mounted anyway?

I've been looking into those Bravia 3LCD tvs lately, they look like a pretty good deal, the picture quality is decent, viewing angles aren't great but I never really watch tv other than straight on. They're a rear projection LCD panel, 1 panel for each colour, RGB. They're cheap as chips $2500 for the 50" 720p
