test light, the wire that lights it with the keys off is power, wire that lights it with the keys in accessories is accessory power, the rest you have to test and see (for speaker wires). Can't think of any others atm.

yeah wiring anything on a car is s***, get it done by someone who has the patience and skills I do my own wiring, takes me 5 minutes to hook up a head unit. There's nothing hard about it you must just stuck. Depending on your head unit existence, you can get adapters that just plug straight into the existing plug that went into the old head unit. I know pioneer make them because I got one for my VR. You just plug one end into the radio and the other into the car plug. Sometimes though there isn't one so you just get the plug from autobarn or wherever that goes into your car wiring and use the plug that comes with the radio, hook up the wires same colour to same colour and you're laughing (did this in my VN). Yes they're a pain to get out but if you know what you're doing it's not really hard as it is time consuming. You just tear the center console to pieces, take out all the heater s*** & hey presto. I have a VR workshop manual existence so if you want to msn me or use PM which I check less regularly I can scan the wiring diagram for you, I'm assuming not much has changed from VR to VS. whoop_69_@hotmail.com |

I agree wiring is a prick of a job if things dont match/don't know what you are doing. Pay someone in the know is best.

I had a VN headunit in my old corolla. Found the wiring diagram on the internets by searching google about 100 times. I think it was off the justcommodores forum. Eurovox 580 or something it was.
Alternatively, you can buy the plugs with labelled wires from Wow sight and sound for like $10. That's what i'd do if i had to do it again. Why a s***ty VN head unit? Cos it was free. I couldn't work out how the freakin hell my corolla was wired, so i ended up just taking it to an auto elec to do. I tried, i tell you i tried. I thought, i'm a computer tech with an advanced diploma in Computer Systems/Electronics Engineering, i'll be able to figure this one out. 3 wasted weekends later (can you tell im a tightarse with money) i took it to the auto elecs. I'll stick to computers. |

I can say that 99% of car makes 2000 onwards come standard with the coloured wiring. I know my '98 VT came standard with the colour coded wires.
Cars older than 6 - 8 years old...=/ Too many issues with dying electrics etc. last edited by eP at 22:31:58 21/Oct/06 |
