Has anyone else had problems with IINET?

I've been an ADSL2+ customer for about 2 weeks now and in that time I've:

1. Had up and down connectivitiy during that time.

2. Been charged for a dialup plan. Rang them told them I don't have a dialup plan. Was told this was setup so I could be connected to ADSL and I wouldn't be charged for it. Two days later I'm charged for it. After complaining had the money returned.

3. Been given a quota of 2gb when although my plan shows I should have 14gb

4. My plan shows that I should have 24,000 download, but when questioned becuase of slow download they tell me for some reason I'm capped at 3,000. Apparenlty they've made the changes now.

Just curious if anyone else has had any problems?

1. They sent me an email telling me my speed will be reduced from 1.5MBps to 512k as they can't afford to offer my plan any longer, unless I pay $20 extra per month. So I tried to go to their site to compare prices and their site was down.

2. Their DNS server has been unstable for years.

3. They most often blame Telstra when something goes wrong. They are the company known to do that the most (reference)

4. They almost never call back when they say they will.

I submitted an application to switch to Internode, can't wait for it to become active. I've had several accounts with iiNet over the last 3-4 years and I really can't take anymore. They don't care about their customers unless they are on their own DSLAMs.

yep, iinet f***ed up royally when i wanted my dsl simply transferred to my new place.

what should have taken 5-10 days max, took over a month. thats a f***EN MONTH without internet and i fkn work from home ffs. if i didnt put a bomb under their arse every second day, i think it would have taken much longer.
when they finally did get it connected, they only gave me a 10gig cap when i paid for a 60gig.
i am usually a pretty relaxed fella but i lost it at these f***wits, so they ended up giving me months for free and extra gigs etc.

all seems to be good now though and apparently the albion exchange that i am connected to is supposed to be pretty good.

what kind of download speeds do other ppl on iinet adsl2 get? from like ausgamers and a well seeded torrent?

I haven't had problems with iinet for a while.
I'm on ADSL2 and I did have dropouts a while ago but I got a modem and phone cables and it's all good. I get between 700-1000kb/sec pretty frequently now.

We had massive troubles too when we did a relocation, and that was for only 3 doors down :(

After that tho and updating the firmware on the billion modem we are using, had uptime of over a month now and going strong @ 20mbit.

I'll check my speeds tomorrow as I've been told my uncapped speed won't come into effect until then. Reading what Strex had to say tomorrow may not = Thursday 19/10/2006 though :(

Anyone got a generic link to one of those speed test sites so I can compare to others with IINET?

i coudlnt be happier with IINET

sure, had a few dramas when i moved address, they put me on the wrong plan and didnt hook me up straight away, apparnelty they were waiting for me to call them to tell them to hook me up

but as for their service

easily the fastest internet ive ever had

salisbury exchange got upgrade to adsl2 about a month ago
was getting daily drop outs, until i upgraded my router firmware to the lastest (netgear dg834v2)

now havent been disconnected in 3 weeks on thrillseeker

only syncs at 15000/1000, but ive dled stuff at over a meg a second (quicktime, the apple site was blisteringly fast, was over 1.5 meg a sec)

yeah I only had problems when I moved but other than that it's been pretty solid connection and yeah easily the fastest connection I have "Connected time so far 36 days, 11 hours".

The original problems I had when I moved were the same as spook and on top of that Telstra borked the line and I was syncing at 256k/64 and that was even before the phone line had a dial tone.

At the time their customer service was s*** as well and took an hour to get served (on a mobile that cost and arm and a leg"

I feel these problems were well and truely worth it in the end.

I'm running iinet at the moment, but my connection to the exchange is pretty s*** and I get about 7000. Soon internode will have adsl2 in my area so if they can get me better speeds I will jump ship.

i'm with spook on this one. totally stoked with the speed, and can't even recall a dropout. i think we got close to 1.8meg a second on some download.

Also on iinet ADSL2+, no problems for me for ages. Sync at about 22000 and get ~2mB/s down :D

I've been on IINET for 10 months since moving from Internode. The only issue in all that time is I had a problem which turned out to be my faulty phone cable. Since then it's been rock solid and fast

Don't know anything about their flakey DNS since I use OpenDNS.

Oh, i did have significant disappointment with them when they upgraded my "local" exchange to ADSL2 and i can't get it, but i'm over that now.

Don't most ADSL companies still operate like a cable TV companies in that you get a contract with them for like 6, 12 or 24 months then shift to a monthly basis? Even if you're just on a pay by the month system, wouldn't there be some sort of agreement that teh ISP would have to provide teh service you selected to teh best of their ability? A third of the speed sounds like they're being a buch of cost-cutting rats :/

I'm on Optus cable atm, it's not too bad but there's been a few random down patches lately. 20gb on peak, 40gb off peak for like $80 a month. Peak hours are 12pm-12am, so it's handy to just do all your DLing when you're sleeping. The main drawbacks are that it suffers from a severly limited upload speed (30kb/s is the fastest upload I've witnessed, which is more than i need anyway but meh) and when other members who share your node are going nuts on the DL's your speed will suffer. It's kinda iffy that if you use up all your 20gb of peak data, you go on shaped all the time, so it's smart to do all your dling in the offpeak hours. I heard optus was supposed to be upping their shaped speed to 64k (from 28), but I haven't noticed any improvement. Normally it wouldn't bother me but my flatmates seem to have no self control or foresight, so we usually end up going over 2 or 3 days before the end of the month.

*edit: OH and I forgot to mention: If you download something from an optus server, they take it out of your quota... WTF...

Yep they offered the plan for at least a year, found out they couldn't financially maintain it and pulled the plug.

At least they allowed me to break contract without having to pay a fee. So I was able to change to another ISP that didn't require me to bundle my phone to get a good deal. Without ADSL2 and bundling, iiNet plans are pretty crap.

ive had a few issues, which were all caused when i first started the put me on the wrong plan and every time i called they kept getting it wrong, there call centre being the first port of call i expected nice warm apologies and a quick fix, but instead all i got was it is fix now enjoy your day. ever since then i havent had a problem, while im still bitter about not having an apology ill continue to stick with them till another adsl2 provider jumps on my exchange.

I had some issue ages ago, when i was connecting up, mostly me being a dumbass. and i talked to some dude on the phone for a while, he was really helpful. so i sent them an email saying how helpful this guy was and how great thier service was and they gave me some discount for being an awesome customer.

you guys should try being awesome customers sometime.

Did a relocation with them just about a month ago.. Had iinet for almost a year now...

Never had a problem. Runs flawlessly, never had a dropout. Maybe it's something on your end?

have had adsl2+ with iinet for the last month or so. No problems here (CBD) since *yet* have 10days, 11hrs uptime at the moment...
Also, haven't noticed any problems with the flakey dns server *yet*

can't seem to get more than 200-300KB/s for a torrent, but i have no problems getting 1.8MB/s on a bunch of torrents combined.

i have been with them for years and haven't had many problems. i run a djb dnscache, squid and have my mail and web shiz hosted at ausgamers so i don't use their servers so i can't comment there.

i have relocated and they handled it properly.

so all up, can't complain.

I was with iinet twice, once a good 3 or 4 years ago when they first started out, they were complete s*** - I ended up with netspace after finally getting outta there crap

I went with them a second time due to them being 'best bang for buck' at the time and, that and my flatmate used them and had no issues...

still didn't have much joy with them.

Think yourself lucky
Up Stream 608 (Kbps.)
Down Stream 2880 (Kbps.)

It's about line quality and distance, of which mine sux.
I doubt you will get better speeds with internode.

I'm with iinet on the 20/40 adsl2+ plan, and it's totally fine for me. I think I've had one or two dropouts in the few months I've been with them, but it's probably due to the phone line being complete arse (ie, even quite audible static on the phone), still sync at 8000/1000 though. No problems moving to them or with their customer service, and it beats the crap out of any 1.5mbit plan imo =)
