Well you guys are my last hope. Bought some Logitech z5400 speakers today from Umart at a great price...only problem is I can not under any circumstances, no matter what I try to do get ANY soound out of them! GRRRR>>>really pissed.

I get perfect surround sound through my ol Zalman 6.1 headphones when plugged into my Audigy2 zs s/card, but even just straight swapping out the cables during the same audio piece and the z5400 system produces zip.

I have tried using the onbaord 5.1 sound from my mobo, tried a myriad of settngs in my soundcard properties (5.1 stuff ..pretty basic stuff really..)ect..but these things will not produce anything. I am almost 100% sure the set is farked as I cannot even get it to run the 'pink noise' test direct from the control box to any speaker for calibration...so unless one of you geniuses has the solution they are getting packed up and taken back to Umart in the morning...not a happy camper.

My one big concern is while I was unpacking the sub I notice that the area arround the power switch was sort of 'smeared', the plastic buffed matt sort of like it had been fiddled with or 'worked' on...not drawing any conclusions yet but they had better swap them over straight away...I aint in the mood to be dicked with that's for sure.
*ps, yes I have tried both standard cabling toslink/spidf/ octical et all

:(

I'd say you need to swap them for another pair.

I've used a bunch of Logitech speakers, and the sales and support guys are awesome, so if you have an issue just go to them, they will look after you.

yeh did all that and I think I have got the prob...it IS a issue with this area arround the main sub switch...i dunno if its been tampered with or some kind of drop damage but if I tap the panel directly adjacent to it, the sound kicks in... the sound coming on and off is directly related to how much I tap ect...so my guess is that something has come slightly separated inside the sub...so frustrating. The area looks like someone has used silastic arround the switch and hasn't doen a very neat job cleasning up...that sort of smudge.

anwyay they is going back.

anyone got any names I can ask for to get some QGL member loving, I know they have 6 in stock soo I will be ever so pissed if I get the run arround...(they have them at $310.)) which is a bargain thats why I shop there!) :)

THANKS CHAPS.

umart are reputated at being pretty good as far as customer service in general go. so i say your best bet would be to go in and say they don't work, and you want a swap over.

yeh they have been pretty good to me so far, I bought some rdram many moons ago and they actually gave me the wrong ram but were happy to give me a refund because they didnt have the right sutff anyway. as I said I know from talking to Andrew at Umart on the phone today to confirm the order that he told me they had 7 in stock so I should be pretty right for a straight swap. Plus I am a good customer there as well. :)

I think even they (Umart) might have been stiffed by the dist. because the more I check out this switch the more it looks like someone has mended it and chucked it back on the assembly line.!

Surprises me because I have always been impressed with Loigtech build quality in the past.

I've never shopped there (C.A. Boy) but I've heard (and read here) nothing but nightmare stories about umart. You couldn't pay me to shop there.

Well seeing as umart are usually cheaper, you could say they do pay you to shop there.

are they a digital speaker? Do you need to enable digital out or use a digital plug?

I know with my old boston acoustics 7500's I had to do that.

I had a set of z2300's in Syd and they didn't need it, still might be worth a shot?

Umart were excellent, no questions asked, just checked out the dodgy bit around the sub's switch area, did some paperwork and handed me a whole new kit. I was in and out in under 20 mins...great service.

Came home, set her up and WE HAVE LIFT OFF!

happy camper now. My guitar teacher is lowering the action on my Cort for me today as well, so when I get home from my lesson tomorrow I can use the CD's he has me using for rythum stuff ect on my new speakers. Impossible to do when all you have is headphones. hehe.

Dunno what you've been hearing but my guess is its a tonne of bulls*** because I have never had any problems with them and I havn't heard any bad stories either. Umart for the win.

Mate try and find a set of Logitech z5400 for $310 anywhere else in Australia. Not even Static Ice reports anyone cheaper..so in this case a price way less than most other local places, cheaper IS better. Bargain really for the sound they produce, and I have never had any probs with Umart. Todays experience was a good example.

I thanked the manager for replacing them so quickly and he said it was his pleasure to help. Can't complain about that.

Don't get me wrong Psycho, I'm glad they helped you out with a minimal of hassle, just as they and any other retailer SHOULD. I was just going by what I have heard about them. For myself, I'm happy with the service I get from C.A. even in times I've lost the reciept etc. they have always come to the rescue!
