I have this crappy cd wallet that only fits the advertised amount if you dont wish to zip it up.
I need a better way of storing them so they dont get damaged. How do you store yours? |

in a hermetically sealed vault.
seriously though, I have them stashed away in a wallet and the ones I use mostly are stuck inside a little plastic dvd holder that you can slide a button along and it picks up the number disc the button points to when you open the lid. |

data cd's - generally make an iso of it and keep it on the computer. I then burn a copy and use that keeping the originals in a cd wallet i have.
that being said, i dont have many "originals" |

Short answer is I don't store anything on cd / dvd, i got sick of dud disks, crc errors etc. I ended up going with a Raid5 array and I've never looked back.

Every cd/dvd I burn I print a label onto it and just chuck it onto a spindle. Once it's full I get another spindle and start to fill that one. Tired using a cd wallet thingy but I prefer the neatness of cd spindles.

I need a better way of storing them so they dont get damaged. Go to EB. They have a large, very solid CD/DVD box that looks like something out of James Bond or 24 that would hold biological weapons. It can hold about 240 discs in sleeves. I recall it costs about about $40 but damn it's well worth it. Here's a pic, but I bought the black version: http://homepage.powerup.com.au/~boldajis/images/laser.jpg last edited by parabol at 22:51:14 12/Oct/06 |

I had folders, got plenty of spindles too, but these boxes are significantly better. There's a few here: http://www.gshop.com.au/cd-dvd-storage-cddvd-box-c-83_84.html
I have two of these but prefer the one they don't seem to sell on that site. Rather than lift up lid two long draws slide out. that way i can stack multiple boxes and still be able to access the disks without having to lift one box off to get to the box underneath You can run labels along the top so it's easy to catalog. Definitely the best way to store i've found that still leaves the disks accessible. Here's the exact same one on ebay. The RRP's bulls***, i wouldn't have paid anywhere near that at the local PC markets. Update: much better ebay listing - buy now for $50. That's more like what i paid. Update2: the one pictured there is the 400 disk version. It doesn't have 'two molded handles' like claimed, but isn't needed. It's the 3 draw bigger one that has the carry handles. That is definitely the 400disk version pictured there though and is exactly what i have an are happy with. s***s all over stupid folders and those lift-the-lid ones. last edited by natslovR at 23:08:25 12/Oct/06 |

idealy the car stereo would have a usb port on it There are actually some out there that do have a standard USB port on the headunit faceplate... Saw a JVC one in some advertising crap that came in the mail just recently. Wasn't overly expensive either at ~$250 iirc. I'm half tempted myself, would work awesome with a little thumbdrive with a few gig. |

yah i have run into cd wallets that won't fit the number they advertise in them & still zip up. i took one back coz it was advertised as fitting 100 disks & was full & splayed open after only about 50 disks.
i usually use the smaller cd wallets, mark the disks with a sequencial numbering system, run all the disks through whereisit to create a db for the catalog. makes it easy to find stuff later. |

I don't back up a lot of stuff. I generally burn music onto yumcha strathfield cds and just let em fly around my car seeing as my hu isn't bothered by the minor scratches. But the stuff I do backup is in spindles or crappy cd wallets.

I used to keep all my "Linux ISO" files on CD in folders, but i got to over 2000 CDs (of "Linux ISO" files) in 15 large folders.
Then i started on DVDs and got about 300 DVDs of "Linux ISO" files. Then i started on my file server and currently have 4 320GB drives completely filled with "Linux ISO" files and need to buy 2 more drives (case is one of those silver metal brief cases modded into a computer with a max of 6 SATA drives in it) I think i will have to build a 2nd file server with 6 more SATA drives because i still have heaps more "Linux ISO" files to store. |

I put them in 100 CD/DVD folders. We've filled 3 of them already and needed a 4th.

My CD's are HERMITechally sealed. Basically, they're locked in a cupboard with HERMITech and 6 inches of knife.
