Anyone had any experience with these? I've been looking at tvs for a while now and while not ready to buy immediately, the new sony bravia 3LCDs look like they've got quite good bang for their buck, anyone in the know here who can explain the pros and cons compared to LCD/Plasmas?

Keep in mind the new "Uber Dooper Laser TV's" coming out in the next year or 2... apparently bang for buck and all that jazz

do you mean LCD rear projection?

The only time I've heard of 3xLCD being used as a feature is in projectors...

http://www.3lcd.com/

gives you a run down of the technology, apparently they used 3 LCD panels, one each for RGB, and project the image through a prism or some technological crap onto those panels.

Its used in rear projection. The screens are large, and look alright, but lose brightness at different angles and i don't know if they can support 720p/1080i/1080p...

Wetwired, yes the new ones from Sony are supposed to be so good that its scary. Head over to the US AVS forums to see the people raving about the new 70 inch jobbie, I did a check on them yesterday in static ice and EYO australia have them listed at $6665, Sony have them at $10k. I think its kdxbr70x2000 and yes its true HD, there is also a nice looking 60 inch one as well. oh and no issues with burn in at all as its projection. Reports from the AVS forum are good.

Here is a thread from one of the guys over there setting up his new one.

The ones I've been looking at are only 42" 50" and 55" inch RRPing for $1999, $2499 and $2999 respectively. They only downside I've found so far is that apparently the lamp/bulbs require replacement every 5000-15000 hours (roughly 4-13 years) at $500-600 a pop.

I don't think it's the same tech as in that thread it's kinda like a rear projection/LCD hybrid thing

the 60" and 70" models you are looking at are probably not 3LCD but rather sony's new SXRD (LCoS based) technology.

http://www.sony-asia.com/corporate/news/regional/2006/aug/14.htm

has all the info on all of sony's new tv's including the LCD panels (Bravia X/V/S), 3LCD's and the new SXRD TV's. The 3LCD's are 42", 50" and 55" while the 60" and 70" are SXRD based.

we just put down a pre-order at JB-HiFi for one of the 60" SXRD's. Should get it within the next 2 weeks. :)

Yeah I finally went and saw on in action, very nice, the viewing angle isn't great, but for my uses that's not an issue.

Where'd you get it for only $2000? their RRP is $2500

Picked up Samsung Widescreen CRT 32 Inch WS32Z40HN last Thursday. It's 32" I think, only for $960, supports up to 1080i and it's got 1xHDMI input, can't complain about the price!

Perfect size for our lounge room not too big, not too small, given the we're only sitting about 3-3.5 metres away from it.

Very happy with it, being CRT no issue with viewing angel, ghosting, contrast etc :) Plus the picture quality seems excellent to us.

It's pretty "slim" for a CRT, but f*** me it's still pretty heavy esp. when I had to lift it by myself...

It suppose to support 1080i but from what I've read about it on various interaweb forums, it might do this cheaty down-converting to 720p internally but I couldn't tell the difference.. Good TV for people on budget, don't mind the "uncoolness" for having "boring" old CRT like us :).

If he'd saved money on the TV to buy a better camera, he'd have nothing worth taking a photo of
