Story

There is too much in the article for me to quote, so I'm just going to pick out my favorites.

*The 68-page lawsuit also alleges that the video game trained Posey how to fire a weapon and turned him into an "extraordinarily effective" killer.

*"Posey essentially practiced how to kill on this game," Thompson said. "If it wasn't for `Grand Theft Auto,' three people might not now be dead."

*"The science is really the clincher here," he said. "What they have found is that video games can train a young person to kill in a blink of an eye. Certainly that occurred in Alabama and may have occurred in New Mexico."

*Thompson argues that the violent video games are "murder simulators" designed to be physiologically addictive to younger people whose brains are still developing.

And finally my favorite...

After the Posey case made national headlines, Thompson said he suspected a video game was involved. He said he talked about the possibility with an unnamed Lincoln County sheriff's deputy days after the shooting.

"But he told me, no, Cody and his family lived on a working ranch. He wouldn't have time to play video games," Thompson said. "But I told him, `Trust me. These teenaged boys find the time.' "

Thompson said he suggested deputies search Posey's possessions for a Playstation 2 game console and the "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City" game, given the popularity of the game among Posey's age group, the link between the game and other violent acts and the fact that Posey's victims were each shot in the head, which he said is a somewhat unusual target given the smaller head mass.

Thompson said he later learned that deputies found both the Playstation 2 and the "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City" game. According to the lawsuit, Posey had "obsessively" played the video game.

I personally found GTA to be instrumental in teaching me how to autolock my rifle in 3rd person by pressing the right shoulder button so that I don't have to aim myself and get perfect acuracy.

It has also taught me that to aquire cheap weapons that killing a police officer with my fists while he shoots me for minimal damage is the go as the two stars of heat go away after a couple of minutes of hiding from the cops.

i guess jack doesn't like history that much, as some of the worst acts of violence (im thinking ww2 here) were happening long before pong came out. and thats not counting the fact that the human species is just naturaly agressive and likes to kill things, or that some people are just to screwed up in the head to seperate fact from fiction. but seriously can this guy just f***ing die already? when it comes to blaming media, movies, music or games, i think george carlin said it best...

"its never the parents. you ever notice this? parents apparantly play no role in the development and outcome of their kids. parents can raise a kid 11, 12, 13 or 14 years but if he turns out f***ed up, well they had nothing to do with that. it must be those kids at the parking lot he hangs around with"

jack can scream that violent games causes young kids to be killers all he wants... my question is. WTF is a 14 yr old kid doing with an obviously adult rated game? then again i guess my above GC quote kinda explains that. people need to realise that anything violent you see in a movie, play in a game, or hear on the radio is simply entertainment, not guidebooks for killing people.

Just ask this scientician!

Thompson is an attention whore. Game sites should just ignore him. Ignoring is kryptonite to attention whores.

video games are a symptom of deranged violent tendancies. not a cause.

i will admit, that a deranged psychopath is going to be drawn into playing violent video games. however a video game won't make the psycho.

its like blameing breathing for psycohpathic episodes.. cause all psychopaths breath. and there is a good chance that they are obsessed with breathing, and sources state that he was breathing all day before the initial attack.

And in other news, a link has proven that people who go to school are more likely to shoot up other kids at school, and people who drink water at all in their life more proned to drowning.

When the oil runs out and the polar caps melt(they are melting right now). This pathetic, tiny, trivial issue will be forgotten about, thank goodness.
