Realistic graphics often detracts from an immersive feel, due to the human brain noticing small flaws. Cartoony graphics on the other hand, people naturally ignore visual flaws.

Of course, an extra bonus to cartoony graphics is the reduced gpu and texture load.

bit silly making TF2 'realistic' looking anyway. I mean seriously you have bombs and s*** blowing up all over the place and dudes firing bazookas into the ground so they can jump higher.... hardly real life is it?

I like the funky NOLF2 type of 'looks' of the game and well TF was just so mucvh fun to play, this reallly looks like it might put the 'fun factor' into some online gaming. Love the animation of the characters when you watch they running from behind, cartoonish but 'fun' looking as well. Couldn't help smiling all thru that trailer.

Sure I am hanging out for ET:Quake Wars as much as the next guy for some realistic scenery and warfare but this will difineately fill a niche market. And to Valve's credit they do make engines that scale pretty well, so even people on modest rigs can enjoy.

Sniper 4 lyfe!

Started playing sniper back in the day when my old V2 used to be the absolute bee's knee's and I could do water transparency flawlessly and alot of people couldn't hehe.

Mmm the good old days, well6 was definately fun.

I used to love playing sniper when the laser sight lagged behind the crosshair (dial-up ftw), you could strafe out and swing the laser in an arc, get back behind a wall and release when the laser was over the poor bastards head. 40kills 2deaths regularly in 2fort and well. When they fixed the dot I switched to engi (snipers were nearly useless in clan wars anyway).

I'm looking forward to this game more then anything in recent years.

It does look pretty cool. Be interesting to see if the gameplay has changed much.

(PS I still want it to be a tacshooter)

Because there simply aren't enough tacshooters out there, and the current generation of shooters has way way way too many games that put a little focus on dominating the map through freedom of movement. That's it.

As a quake fan I thought you'd appreciate skill in movement (bunnyhopping, conc jumping, rocket jumping or running your arse off as the scout) over stamina bars and prone buttons. It also provides more room for variety between classes.

Is that what you're saying? Do you want BF2 with TFC classes or just the "super realistic" graphical style?

I hate bunnyhopping; always have. It's a stupid bug that turned into a stupid gameplay mechanic.

I wanted a decent tacshooter on a solid engine that was going to offer interesting multiplayer. I didn't want a flat out port of TFC with cartoon graphics, which - as neat as it looks - what it seems to be from the gameplay video. I hope there's something more in there than what CSS offered us (CS + new graphics + physics).

I'd like a game with the tactical aspects of the Rainbow 6/Ghost Recon series, but actually built for multiplayer - not having it tacked on as an afterthought to the single player game.

As I said, this looks like it might be fun in it's own merits (though I'll be seriously disappointed if it's the exact same gameplay mechanics just with new graphics), but it's not what TF2 was supposed to be. So I'm disappointed beacuse of that.

Will I play it? I never really liked TFC. I never played TF for Quake. I played a bit of CTF under protest, but I was always more interested in pure deathmatching.

I'm more interested in Portals (though I still don't know if it has multiplayer?) because it looks like an interesting new take on deathmatch (I saw someone haxed together a Garry's Mod thing for HL2, anyone tried it?)

It was never a bug ? Complain more, just cos doom automatically handles vertical aiming for you =p

I'd say at least 90% of the fanbase is looking for exactly this.

TF simply wouldn't be TF with all the aspects that have survived it throughout its iterations, so I don't think valve is about to take them away from it. I think you better look beyond the team fortress franchise.
Has it even been said that Portals will have multiplayer? I don't think it will, tbh.

I didn't think anyone would simultaneously be an id fan and not appreciate bunnyhopping. You have surprised me today.

I think the best thing Carmack did back in the early q3 days was limit bunnyhopping to 2 jumps. Then everyone cried about it and he put it back in. BOO!

Original, classic, the quake3 version (fortresses?) and the Doom3 one that was in production for a while.

Well if it's so obvious that you reduced yourself to using that particular catchphrase why do you tear up that the franchise won't change for you in

That's my concern, too, looking at that gameplay video. I really enjoyed TFC, don't get me wrong, but people moved on from it. I find it hard to believe that shiny new graphics would be enough to draw them back to it for any reasonable length of time.

I think this is what happened with Quake 4. It was too similar to Quake 3 in its design, but with minor differences that stuck out for the fact that they were the only differences.

Yes, people will play it for a bit, but it certainly won't be the game that TF2 was going to be when it was first talked about.

Due to the cartoonism aspect of TF2, I hope the novelty doesn't wear off after a couple of days like it did with Serious Sam, etc.

I said ORLY because I thought it was somewhat obvious that I would be looking elsewhere to get my tacshooter needs satisfied. Besides, it seems more people are crying at me because I'm not jumping on the cartoony bandwagon!@#

I'd like to think that after what, six years or so of development, they've got a few new ideas in there as well. I don't think it'll just be a flat out port. They were talking about doing the commander mode thing ages ago for TF2 so I'm hoping that'll make an appearance as well - I think it still has a lot of potential to be a really fun game - just as long as it's not a straight TFC conversion (I can't believe Valve'd be mad enough to do that).

I'm not too excited after watching that.

As Trog said - it just looks like TF with cartoon graphics (which don't appeal to me anyway).

I'd rather just play the original Quakeworld TF with all the new graphics n stuff that u can get for QW now than this new one.

I'm hanging out for Quake Wars though. That'll be the s***.

It wouldn't bother me if it was the same game. Then hopefully someone can come along and improve it.

IMO, even the exact same TF game updated would be an improvement over the classes we get stuck with in BF. In TF every class is unique and different to play with in its own right, which can hardly be said for the watered down classes in BF. Different type of game sure, but some imagination injection wouldn't go astray.

You'd be surprised. I remember when we played TF full on back in the day, our engineers would never bother building turrets. They would always be on the offense. As with the heavy weapon guys, they'd never use their chaingun, just run around buckshotting everyone. Medics would never ever heal heh and are equally as effective on flag running as a scout.
