Does anyone know any good websites or have any good CV templates, i'm looking for a type of template where i can put my picture in possibly alongside the start of the writing in the first page.
but just looking for one better then the standard word ones. I've looked through a few but found most of them to be dodgy, i'll keep looking but just wondering if anyone knew of any Cheers. :) |

Start with some of the office ones and play with them. You can get a pretty slick nd personalised feel in about half an hour or so. The important part is to continually change and enchance it as you go. Not only in the content, but the way it looks and feels.

f*** templates, how is anyone but you going to know what you want ?
Just draw it up manually till you come up with a design then do your best to recreate the template in word If you do it manually on paper first, you wont get hungup with f***ing around with settings on your pc |

Most people will only concern with the content of the resume not the look of it (unless you're going for something arty then it's a requirement). The best resumes are the ones that described exactly what you have to offer and what you've done in the past. It should be clear and concise, like Spook said, employers will be reading a lot of resume so they don't want a bible to read.
How I do mine (might not suit you as this is for IT industry) - Normal details like address, blah blah - Education - Skill Summary: List all my skills in tabular format, i.e. what I have done the I applications I've used and give myself a rating from 1-5, 1 being least experienced. - Career History: List all my past work experiences in chonological order. Within each, I've got short bullet points listed all the stuff I was responsible for in the job. - References. I last time I looked at my resumes (back in 2000) it's 12 pages long but they're quite well spaced out and I guess you do accumulated a lot of stuff when you've been working a while. Now like I said this was great for IT because, most people just want to see what you can do - I received good feedback from the past employers that my resume was good and to the point etc. Naturally it'll depend on what sort of job you're going for, you might have to fluff yours up a bit. But most importantly please check your speeeling and grammaaz, best get someone with good written skills to read it. Nothing worst than reading a resume with typo etc. And I'm not talking about writing so good it'd win Pulitzer prize winning writting style either, just make sure the simple stuff is right. That's my $0.02. |

best get someone with good written skills to read it gg Anyone who thinks that appearance doesnt matter with a resume is dreaming. In this day and age, with the money there is in marketing, I think you're nieve to think that you can knock something up without giving a f*** about the presentation.. |

I last time I looked at my resumes (back in 2000) it's 12 pages long but they're quite well spaced out and I guess you do accumulated a lot of stuff when you've been working a while. If the OP is relatively inexperienced, I’d recommend that you keep to the idea of a 1-2 page resume. A resume really should be lightweight and brief as possible. Most of the recruiters I’ve talked to throw out resumes that are more than 5 pages in length, because they are waffle. Even as you get a lot more experience, I’d generate two documents; a CV which is a detailed summary of your career; and a targeted resume, which briefly documents your relevant skills for a given position. Starting with a more detailed CV is also a great way to write your resume, as you can condense and revise your CV over and over again until it is as small and as brief as possible. At least that is how I did mine. My resume has the following structure. : Contact details. Who I am Core Skills Work Experience Education Community Activities Achievements Contact details: The very first thing they should see is who you are and how they can contact you. I also included these details on the top of every page; because people like to pull resumes apart. Who I am: Many employers care about the kind of personality of person they are going to employ. This is your chance to show them that you are keen about what you do, how you do it and your future. However, not all employers care, so make this brief. Core Skills: This can be a skill matrix or a description of your core skill. I broke mine up into 3 areas, design, development and communication; because the positions I apply for all mention those areas consistently. If you use a descriptive you should provide examples of the work that you’ve done instead of vague comments. Saying “I’ve managed people” is great, but saying “As a manager, I improved efficiency by 25% and I gave my boss great head” is going to give your potential employer a lot more understanding of what you can do. Work experience; The goal here is to give potential employers an insight into the kind of work that you did. Note, this doesn’t mean a detailed display of all of your duties, rather examples of the roles you covered. Education: Make it brief and too the point. Community Activities: The general purpose of this section is too prove I’m not an inhibited nerd . Achievements: This section shows employers that you can excel at something. If I had space issues I wouldn’t cry at deleting those last two sections. Many employers don’t give a s***, but you’d be surprised at the number that do. But most importantly please check your speeeling and grammaaz, best get someone with good written skills to read it. Nothing worst than reading a resume with typo etc. And I'm not talking about writing so good it'd win Pulitzer prize winning writting style either, just make sure the simple stuff is right. I agree completely with this section. A resume should be flawless. |

Anyone who thinks that appearance doesnt matter with a resume is dreaming. In this day and age, with the money there is in marketing, I think you're nieve to think that you can knock something up without giving a f*** about the presentation.. It needs to be clean, neat, focused, easy to read and understand. Those points alone make a resume look good, or at least a good start. |

Like I said it depends on what you're apply for. Maybe you've missed the bit where I said, "It worked for me" And I also never claimed to have the best written skillz either that's why I advice him to get someone else to read it. I've read resume that looked fantastic but guess what the contents are crap so that candidate didn't get the job. Maybe you need to improve your comprehension skills LOL. |
