Is becoming a Qantas Frequent Flyer worth it? I can see a few Business trips around Australia coming up over the next 12 months and wanted to know peoples thoughts and opinions about joining up..

The points are worthwhile if you are getting full economy tickets, definately.
If you're flying a fair bit qantas club is awesome ... work pays for us which is great. It's free to just be a frequent flyer isn't it? |

Cost is about $90 to become a frequent flyer, if it was free I'd be joined up already.
What do you mean by full economy? Is that excluding the cheap arse deals you can buy? |

I got a free return trip to Japan with my flyer miles - it's totally worth it. I don't even fly that often.

Yeh its worth it. I found out a year back that I had 140,000 points that needed to be linked to a Qantas frequent flyers card. Cost me about $60 to set it up and found out I can score a free trip to anywhere in the world with that many points. You got about 8 years to burn them up as well unlike some other cards.

on a simliar subject, I tried the Virgin Lounge out in Melbourne yesterday and it bloody rocks. $30 to get in is a bit steep if you're not a Member, but I couldn't think of a better way to pass a few hour away than watching Foxtel in a private movie theatre. All the Carton Crownies you can drink + Comedy Channel = win.
The free wireless broadband seemed a goer but I didn't have the lappy handy :( |

You can add your FF number to any flight you haven't been on. Even if you have already paid for your ticket.

its deifnately worth it.
I travelled a s***load in my old job and signed up. I was a platinum frequent flier before I knew it. Free Qantas Club, advanced check in and boarding, regular upgrades etc etc. I also have my ANZ frequent flier VISA which I use for pretty much everything. I'm guessing about $4k a month goes on it, which is 4000 points a month as well. I checked last week when I got back from South Africa and I have just under 400,000 points. which takes me anywhere in the world business class x 2! if you don't fly regularly your status credits start dropping and you can drop back to gold/silver/bronze status but your points never expire, you just lose the nice benefits. I've only used them once for a personal trip and that was to go to Tassie to play golf and see some wineries. It cost me 12,000 points and $120 in taxes. I decided after that that I'mgoing to save them for a big international trip, because I can get to Tassie for $220 return with Virgin! although I have heard they are changing it now so you can use points to pay the taxes, which is good because I saw no benefit to using the points for dmoestic flights as the cost saving wasn't there due to taxes. |

Well I signed up and you can put your existing flights within the last 12 months onto your membership. Also as a bonus, your points don't expire provided there is point activity once every 3 years.
Free stuff here I come! |

It's the free tea/coffee + breakfast + drinks in the evening, wireless internet, games, etc lounge thing they have at most airports. In addition you get express check in & priority baggage on the carousel.. just to name a few perks.

I was in a few airports while I was travelling - I was pissed with how few of them had free wifi. Pretty lame if the QClub doesn't even offer it.

What does the Qantas Club offer?tea/cofee facilities with nice cookies. Every newspaper/,magazine under the sun that you can take with you when you leave. Top quality booze - imported beers, $30+ reds, whites and bubbly. Good food, comfy chairs Showers Meeting rooms Free internet (no idea baout the wireless) but the Sydney and Melbourne ones have about 30 workstations with desktops that are connected to the net for free use. I'm sure there's other cool stuff. It's all rpetty handy if you travel regularly, I spent a s***load of hours in the Melbourne/Sydney QC's in 2003/4/5. International travel is also good, you get access to the alliance airways lounges like BA, and Cathay Pacific. In Hong Kong and Bangkok you can actually get a private room to sleep in etc. its pretty handy. |
