okay

so

my gf got the $79 3G phone cap plan through crazy johns (telstra) and they gave her a free nokia n70 phone

i got my plan updated at optus $79 cap, 3G and i got a nokia 6280 phone

both are awesome, we make video calls to each other every now and then and for her its the same price as normal calls (35c per 30 seconds) for me its about 50c per 30 seconds.

both are uber deals

I just got a new plan, $49 cap through telstra, free v3x and $300 credit (which means no payments for 6 months) $200 credit to everyone and $50 credit to telstra per month.

I was stoked.

theres a 2 megapixel camera that faces away, and a smaller vga camera that faces you

same with the n70

the quality is awesome with the 2megapixel (obviously) and the vga camera is pretty good for video calls, so long as you dont move around much. and 3g coverage is pretty good, sometimes i lose it in tingalpa but i then fall back onto the gsm network.

Same here, got a Hello Moto V3 when they first came out, $0 upfront and the phone only ends up being like $250 at the end of the plan.

My bills only ever $67.12 a month and thats for $230 calls, the phone and full cover insurance.

Is it just me, or is every single mobile provider's website absolutely s***ful and doesn't tell you any real information?
The Optus site lays the plans out pretty clearly but the Telstra site has s*** hidden everywhere.
I want clearly laid out tables showing the different plans available.
Does anyone know of a website similar to say whirlpool for broadband that compares mobile plans?

EDIT: Where on the Telstra site does it lay out the cap plans?

I'm not sure whether or not I want to make the change to 3G or not..

I'm currently using a 6230i which really has been a good phone, I have just smashed it around alot..

Does anyone know anything about that new LG ? I think its only 2G but it definately looks nice

im happy with 3G, well with the hybrid anyway. if 3G drops out it goes straight over to normal GSM.

the 6280 is far from fragile, even though it is a slide phone. the n70 is the same as well, little unit.

awesome camera, awesome playback for music, good expandable memory.

Id really plug tyhe 6280, i didnt want to get a new phone until the n93s came out, but this was free and im loving it.

I'd like to be able to check my emails and maybe do some casual web browsing, but don't want to pay per kb. Are there any plans (pref. Optus) that allow for that with a capped plan?

all internet traffic on mobiles is charged by the kb.

with optus the traffic charged at 1.5c/kb and they give you a generous 2mb allowance for $9.90 (i.e. $30 value) or if you want to sign up for their monthly zoo internet service it is $4.95 for 4mb ($60 value).

if however you are more interested in mobile email and use the mobile phone as well then a blackberry may be more useful. $99/month for 50mb email allowance and $500 in call credit. i have been thinking about getting one of those sexc nokia e61 blackberries but i <3 the camera in my n70 too much.

depends on your job i suppose. if you are at a desk all day then there is obviously no need for a mobile. however if you drive all over the countryside then a phone is more important than toilet paper (almost).

I dont understand how anyone could not have a mobile in this day and age. If you have ever used a public phone in your life thenn you have zero excuse. Any aus post office sells super cheap setups. Like $99 for a phone and a prepaid setup. Id feel naked leaving home without one purely on the what if you break down or lose your keys or any of those situations... so handy. Especially if you are getting chased by bad people and need help! :P

yeah i only use $30 every 2 months

... you have internet access, why on earth would you use your phone ... you can't even walk away while talking to people on a mobile, they follow you wherever you go!

i get about 4 days standby, 2 and a bit days with my heavy use (see above, i go over the $500 cap)

its quite small but with a pretty good size screen, and its a slide phone, so its very space efficient

Public phones don't require the person to make sure it's charged, has credit and be on them when required.

I wish I didn't have mine, wouldn't make many of the calls I do on it, let alone receive the ones I wish I hadn't.
