It's a decent read but judging by the Napster/Metallica references etc, I'm guessing it's an old article? I say around five years or so. It is scary how most of it is still pretty relevant though.

It's a very old article, but not suprised tho because Cortney Love has been speaking out about this kinda stuff for well over 10 years now. It's just bulls*** how much the record companys use and abuse talanted acts and profit off the disposable 'idol' style artists. Its purely disgusting, being in the industry i see some of its effect, and meeting record execs who all they think about is sell sell sell money money money.

sure they gotta make money, but the way they go about it is a 'dont get in my way or i'll f***ing crush you' attitude, and thats how they treat the acts they sign at times.

I reckon web sites will replace radio stations eventually (at least in more densely populated areas), and I see this turning the table back to the artists favour.

Also, I think The Wiggles make enough money to balance the averages out :)

the riaa blows. that news is older than the article ;p~ if i was the sort of person who purchaced commercial music from big record labels it would make me quite angry. the last few tracks i purchaced were $1.70 each & recieved the tracks in both 1411kbps wav & 320kbps mp3 format so the stoopid 'change of format' copyright law isn't breached. diaf commercial record labels!
