Sony are offering PSP gamers a new venue to get movies onto their handheld with a new Memory Stick deal:
In concert with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Sony Electronics will be making 1GB and 2GB Memory Stick Duo(TM) Entertainment Packs available that will be bundled with an installer DVD. With the installer DVD loaded into a personal computer, you can use the complimentary unlock code in the package to select, unlock and transfer one of four Sony movies optimized for PSP playback from the DVD to the Memory Stick media.

The movies to choose from are: "Hitch," "S.W.A.T.," "The Grudge" or "XXX: State of the Union."
More details available in the press release, as well as some promo photos of the box. US$60 for the 1Gb version and US$100 for the 2Gb.

It's just an incentive to buy a Sony branded memory sticks since UMD movies were a colossal failure. Now just wait till someone cracks the DVD and you'll get all four movies.

Well, you get to help perpetuate Sony's proprietary hardware and formats. That's a plus.

Oh wait - you mean better for YOU.

Unless it comes with a free rootkit, I'm not interested. Cheap bastards.

Scoggex, I dont know about locally but I bought a 1gb duo Scandisk for my PSP from this ebay seller, forget how much I paid but it was something like a third of what Sony want for them.

His recent list of items sent to me this morning they have 2gb Sony high speed (x80)memory stick pro for $78.95 as an instant buy. The seller has 100% feedback and my stick arrived in original packing ect in about 6 working days..and has been perfect. I don't know if anyone can offer a mem stick at that price locally.

The ebay store is Shop Xpress

2GB stick link

p.s and the seller ships out of Sydney or Melbourne and NOT from overseas like Taiwan ect like a lot of the mem stick sellers do on ebay.

On a slightly related topic, I noticed that JB Hi-Fi are selling PSPs (white or black) for $360 at the moment, including a free game AND five UMD movies. I was almost tempted.
