Topic: Logitech G7 Mouse - Is it any good?

Hi wise and all knowing QGL community. Does anyone have a Logitech G7 cordless mouse? Are they worth the price? I was in Harevys today, and I saw one for $180, but I'm pretty sure they could be had cheaper elsewhere. The corded one was $130, but I like the idea of cordless.

For people wondering, there's some info here.

The only thing that is stoping me from buying the G7 is the lack of a forward thumb button. I've gone from an MX700, to a MX1000 (current mouse). But with the G7's design looking more MX700 like, that would be a bit of a backwards step for me.

Sheesh, that's cheap. Never heard of that website either. Thanks for that!

What do you use the forward thumb button for? I've only ever had the two buttons, it'd take some getting used to any extra ones. Took a while to get used to mouse wheels...

Website browsing, jumping between pages, and I find I use the forward button a bit with working on websites all day.

it's the best cordless mouse bar none. I have the G5 corded version, cause for my use there was no extra convenience of not having a cord.

i have a g7, if my mx1000 worked reliably i'd use that. The g7 is too slippery on top, and having seperate rechargable batteries annoys me. I always forget to switch them over before some serious gaming, whereas the mx1000 was just always on the charger when not being used.

nats, how long to the batteries last generally? Will it survive me playing BF2 for 4 hours straight without going funky? If it's too much of an issue, I might go the corded. I've spent more money on batteries for cordless mice than I have for the mice I reckon.

I might take a look at the mx1000 as well.

Thanks for the info guys...

I have two G7's and I can't recommend them enough. I find the battery life is about 6-8 hours depending on the type of game you might be playing, but even then, just set the warning message to a reasonable limit and swap when necessary which takes all of 5 seconds to do. It took me a short while to get use to only having one thumb button but it's all good now. Just glad I'm not left handed aswell otherwise it's no G7 for you!!

I was a bit wary of going wireless over corded but I have always been impressed with my logitech stuff and the mouse was getting uber praise in reviews so I thought I'd give it a shot.

The battery swapping kinda annoys me when I have to do then I think about it and really its a 5 sec swap so I get over it. On the plus side its a lot harder to forget to charge the mouse like the ones with the cradle.

Theres no BS connect button s*** it just works first time everytime!

Tracking is very precise, has never skipped for me and works on virtually any surface.

Now battery life, just general light usage I get ~3 days out of mine which generally conisist of an hour or so in the morning and a few hours use at night with work in between. Weekends less depending on how much gaming I do.

At a 2 day LAN I found myself swapping the battery every 6-8 hours. It really isnt that hard to pop a battery out of the mouse and charger and click it in, plus it warns you before going mental so you can finish up your killing and then swap it over.

rubba recommended the G7 to me when my LX700 reciever decided to die, I miss the forward button but other than that it's excellent! Having a spare battery to quick swap (it slides in without removing any casing or anything, takes like 1 second) is the best. Tracks seamlessly and you can set warnings for the batteries to pop up on screen, makes it easy. With concentrated clicky games or whatnot you'll get about 6 hours I've found but with the ease of switching batteries it's not a big deal at all.

Do it, buy one.

Ok, it seems pretty cool. I disabled the zoom function of the middle button. I also don't like how the middle button clicks. I have the RL (and other favourite weapons in other games) on the middle button, and it's a bit tricky to use that way. I guess I could program it to use the back button on the side to do the same thing...

Otherwise, it's amazingly solid feeling and smooth. I've never used a cordless mouse that is so responsive... overall... I give it a 8/10. It looses points for the middle click thing I'm afraid :)

i have a logitech duo mouse which has been tops....sort of wierd how they have gone with 2 batteries, the duo usually lasts 2 days with 2x rechargable AAs. Its a pain how you cant buy cordless keyboards on their own though.

can anyone advise of any cordless keyboard/mice packs that have the G7?

Someone needs to make a cordless mouse that can also be plugged into as well sorta like USB style. So when it's charging you plug in thru the front where the cord normally would go and still be able to use and then when its charged just unplug it again. That way you can always use it without stuffing around.

The best of both worlds. If I wasnt so lazy I'd make the thing myself and rake in the cash.

I found after a while that middle button loosens up some and is nicer to use.

Yeah I've noticed that Orbitor.. I'm getting used to it now. Definitely the sexiest and most solid mouse that I've ever had. The ability to quickly switch between resolution is cool. When I'm running around as a dude with a gun in BF2, I have it on the middle, when I'm helicoptering, I have it down low so I don't spack out, and when I'm in a tank or a stinger launcher I have it up high so I can quickly zip the turret around. Very cool.

Tung, I haven't seen it in a pack. I asked at Harveys and they said it doesn't come in one (that doesn't mean it doesn't though) because I was looking at getting a matching uber KB and mouse. Fortunately, the cordless KB that came with the computer is pretty close.

that's a terrible idea rev :/

g7 2 sec battery swap >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> that

and tung the G7 is only sold alone, if you were to get a keyboard that complimented it you would be looking at the G15 keyboard which I may get one day

Insom, they're always going to be heavier because of the battery... But I don't mind a heavy mouse. Makes it feel a bit more solid. Having said that, the G7 batteries are quite light and small compared to a couple of AAs.

lol as if you would spend 130buxs on mouse and have to change the battery every couple of days when you can buy a keyboard with usb plugs on the side and plug your mouse into your keyboard and usb keyboard to computer..... why with the cordless how many people are sitting on a lounge and playing games?

I like to sit back when I play my games, and having cords everywhere knocking cans of pepsi max over and generally cluttering up my desk gives me the s***s. It's convenience, plus the G7's totally own all other mice.

Yeah, what he said.

However, I can understand that someone might not want to spend $130 on a mouse.

Not to mention the fact that it comes with a 3 year warranty (for $130 you'd expect something like that).

Yeah i dont mind spending 130 buxs on a mouse i just cant see spending money on batteries every few days.

You do realise the g7 uses small li-ion batteries and you get 2 with the mouse, one sits in the charger charging away when the PC is on and the other inside the mouse giving it power.

When it tells you the battery is low you eject the battery from each and swap them over. There is no purchasing of batteries with the G7 ever.

You can have the batteries swapped over in the time it takes you to reload your weapon in BF2.

Does anyone know how long the batteries last in the MX3000 keyboard and mouse?

I'm pretty keen on that combo but I don't want to be forever having to charge batteries etc because they run out after a few days.

Website says 6 months or something crazy, maybe if you used it 2 minutes a day...

Anyone have any experience with these? I would expect it would average 3-4 hours a day use.

Yours forever
