I have an old PC I'm wanting to turn into a media station.

It has an old GeForce 4 ti4200 with built-in TV-out but I can't for the life of me find a cable that suits it.

The only cables I can find are 4-pin S-Video which have a flat plastic bar across the top (two seperate pins in my socket) and a pin arrangement that looks like it would otherwise fit this, if leaving some holes unfilled.

Does anyone know the spec of the cable I'm looking for, or how to make this thing work? Cheers in advance for any response.

from memory my old leadtek ti4400 had a similar plug, that a fluro blue cable would plug into and at the other end would split into composite cables. i think :P

In the dark, I almost destroyed an s-video cable by stubbornly trying to force it into my graphics card when it wanted a combo adapter like in the photo pasted here.

Crap. Thought it might be something like that!

Standard svideo to composite convertver dongle will work fine with yours, your's is basicly newerstyle vivo type plug or YPbPr output.

My 7900gt has a 7 pin plug that fits the assorted out dongle thing, and according to the manual (omfg yes I actually read it... it was small :P) there is 3 types of plugs -

4 pin (with the block)
7 pin (with the block)
9 pin (all pins)

It says that an S-Video cable will fit either the 4 pin style port (which is commonly known as s-video anyway) AND the 7 pin port as well.

So I would say if it fits in the current port without force or mangling anything it should work.

Yeh unfortunately I have the 9 pin which doesn't accept anything but the 9 pin thingy.

Might just get a new vid card for the machine, less f***ing around that hunting up this stupid cable.

Here's your help: it's spelt "newb" or "noob" or some l33t spelling like "n00b" or "n3w8" ... nub is like NAH-B, if you want to spell it with a 'u', you'll have to put a vowel on the otherside of the B so that the first vowel is pronounced, can I recommend using "e" on the end so that you keep the 'oo' sound without jeopardizing the rest of the word?

FIRST THING TO DO.. go check the box you got the card in.. the 7 pin adapter will be in there

if its not good luck getting one.. i called about 50 places all over australia trying to get 1 and no one could get it...

then i looked in the vid card box and it was in there.. woot!!
