... is available atm at Harvey Norman ((of all places)).

while HN isn't my fav pc/software provider by a long shot, this is indeed a worthy mention - especially being that the upgrade ver only requires you to insert a valid 98/me/2k cd for 5 only seconds at the beginning of the install.

It'd be nice to see more retailers pick up on this idea, especially now that we're in tax (deductable :) season

I can never really get my head around this idea that companies have that they have to spend as much money as possible just so they can claim stuff back on tax just because it's coming up on the end of the financial year. It's as though they coudln't purchase those things any other time at all and not reap the same benefits.

It reminds me of those people you see who stock up on like six weeks worth of food just because the supermarkets are closed for two days over easter or Christmas.

With tax stuff though I guess in many instances you are only out of pocket for a shorter period of time.
Also, sometimes if you buy s*** right at the end of the financial year you can't claim as much as you normally could back and have to deppreciate the majority of it the following year

meh, I don't get tax overall, seems like a waste having income tax AND GST. One or the other motherf***er, one or the other
Superannuation should be tax free seeing as I've paid tax on it already once

ok, now I'm getting sidetracked

Alright... I need a legit version of XP Pro.

I have no idea where all my 95/98/98SE official cd's are (they were HP/Gateway installs anyway, probably no use), but I got a non-legit ME and 2000. Will these work, allowing me to install the upgrade version?

Hopefully this post is allowed, since we've bought $500 worth of gay MS OS's over the years.

are you talking about the academic version?

We just had it on sale for $99 for about a month...

I think its more the CD-key that you need chub, rather than the cd itself. You can just instal XP-Pro Upgrade from scratch, and as far as I know, it asks for an old CD key if it needs one

this leads to a new - and lets face it... more interesting thread. Plz do me a favour and make it. As a young buis manager I'd be keen to contribute. That said, this thread was meant for all the Qgl warez-monkeys that find themselves getting the raw-end of the stick when getting their rigs serviced when they don't have a legit ver of XP. This is something that could probably be dealt with in more detail I guess..

hehe.. ya never know. I've never understood why people act as defensively as they do, but then again - I've had a very privalidged upbringing.

throw me some details plz dude - I'm often sorting these things out for people. If you have a legit MS OS I can get it figured for you. Throw me a PM if you need some info... I'll endeavour to post relevant info from the Microsoft site for others as I come across it if no-one does so sooner.

I should add - if you're looking for a tax deduction that is legal, it's best to check your current employment status and deduction particulars with your chosen qualified accountant. I'm all for providing helpful info to AG locals, but it needs to be said that everyone's situation is unique, and needs to be qualified before banking on. Can someone add to this?

You shouldn't need the 95/98 CD's or the CD Key...mine installed without asking me to verify the upgrade at all.

As I mentioned a while back, you can purchase FULL versions of XP Professional from Microsoft for $237.60. Just go to the Windows Upgrade page and go from there.

Same with UQ if you do any Electrical/CompScience/IT course.

You still have to reactivate over the phone if you change hardware, which is rather annoying and intrusive.
