im thinking of getting a NDS or a PSP. anyone recommend either of the two?

i want to play network games from home wifi network, i hear mariokart is rad on NDS, what does the PSP have to offer?

also, what are the costs involved with hacking the two, you have to buy a special kart for the NDS? PSP just need a memory stick?

any suggestions are welcome

I dont think you can hack the DS like you can hack the PSP, not only is it harder but the homebrew scene isnt that big for the DS (from what I remember). I would go for the DS, awesome games, with a new zelda for the DS you cant go wrong. If youre getting a DS get a lite one.

I dislike both consoles because of their sheer size. I own a PSP, and though I might have considered a DS at some point, I find even the DS Lite to be too large to be something you can take around with you compared to the size of the SP.

As far as games go, Lumines is about the only PSP game that kept my interest longer than a few minutes. I've considered looking at Mercury at some point, but that's about it.

Mario Kart DS I played on a mates DS for a while, but considering I'm not much of a gamer anymore, it's not something which would keep my interest long given all the other things my time goes into. Each to their own of course.

Personally if I wanted to buy a console like this, I'd still just buy a GBA SP with Minish Cap and LttP/Four Swords.

I lost power at my place the other day (damn transformer out the front blew up) and actually dusted off my PSP for the first time in like 3 months. Kept me occupied until the power was restored, then back to the bottom of the draw it went!

PSP - but i only have one as I fly quite often. Always have 2 movies and some music on it, got a few games which pass the time. A few other guys i work with have them so we play 3 and 4 player burnout on the plane trips which is pretty good fun.

If i didn't travel i wouldn't own one.

raven, i have a gba micro and minish cap + a few (four?) other games (inc advancewars 2). its pretty dope, but i want something i can surf the web on.

If you dont use your psp, i might considering a swap for my GBM + Games + $100 or something.

but yeah i think i will trade in my gba/sell it when i upgrade to PSP or NDS.

I think PSP is the way to go...

or i spose i could get a GBA flash card, to use homebrew on my GBM...

I think you really need to decide which games you prefer on the devices, and no one can really make that decision for you.

Personally, I prefer the DS though. It has a MUCH larger library of games, especially when you take into consideration you can play GBA games as well. But yeah...it's all about what games YOU like. Check out Gamespot or IGN and see what has gotten good reviews on both system, and what appeals to you.

I just got a Supercard, a 1gb miniSD card and a super pass 2 last week. It was quite easy to update the firmware on my DS, and now I can run *erherm* homebrew apps and stuff on my DS off the supercard. I can strongly recommend the DS since it has a few good games and teh whole GBA library available. Now I can also play videos and music on my DS, so it's kinda like a PSP but with a battery that lasts over 10 hours.

I'd have to admit the homebrew scene on the DS is a bit slower than the PSP, but it's still very much alive and healthy. There's some nifty apps out there for teh DS, some of which are quite innovative in teh way they utilise both screens, touch capabilities and wifi. I think teh biggest factor is power. The PSP has the raw guts to run heaps of different emulators, even a n64 emulator. At the moment, teh DS struggles to run megadrive games (given that the emulator is VERY young), and there's no SNES emulator (much to my sadness, since one of the biggest attractions to teh DS supercard for me was playing Lufia: rise of teh sinistrals on the train). There's a SNES emulator for GBA which you can use on the DS, but since it only uses GBA resources it lacks the grunt to play most games, and it can't handle sound.

It's pointless to compare the two really. PSP has WAY more grunt than the DS, but the DS has some nifty built in features and a much larger legitimate game library (if you include GBA games). The cost of getting a NDS to be able to run homebrew with sufficient storage is going to cost up to $400, where as for PSP it will cost over $500. The difference is pretty minor to me, and if I had realised it before I would have given teh PSP more concideration.

Overall, I can give the DS with a supercard a 8/10. Great fun, loads of games (NES, SMS, GB, GBC, GBA and NDS games available plus homebrew ports). They lose points because setup isn't as easy as it could be, and there's less power to work with.

Also, I hate DS lite because GBA carts stick out a centimetre.

m3 adapters will play movies and mp3s and store photos, which its an extra $120-$150 on top of a ds but it puts the ds up there with the psp.

anyway if you want a handheld with good games ds
if you want a handheld that does everything else and s*** games get a psp.
