Well things have been going pretty well here at work and the boss is upgrading my 'work' machine. So he tells me to go to the Dell website (we use Dells these days for our laptops) and pick something out.

Tongue in cheek I send him a link to the XPS 1710.

He comes back with a shopping cart with it fully optioned out - video card upgrade, 2G ram etc.

This thing!

I think I'm gonna act all cool and reserved for the rest of the day and then go home and run around screaming 'WOOOO!' for an hour or so!

They were originally US-only but are now available in Australia. If you go to www.dell.com.au you'll see em listed.

17" isn't too bad for road use but its pretty much as big as you'd like it. This will be more a movable than a portable computer - its a desktop replacement as I don't have a normal PC at work, only a notebook.

Two different model CPUs, the former being the more expensive and newer one.

I have nfi how much difference in performance there is, but the T2600 is about 300 bucks more expensive.

Nice as long as your not paying for it!
I remember looking into setting up one of these for a salary sacrifice about a few months ago. Wonder what happened to the option for adding in 2x 7200 speed drives an setting em up in raid0?
No way would I settle for a 5400 speed drive tho
