They're way more fun if you can actually find some people to race them with. That, of course, will become quite costly, with repairs and upgrades etc. |

They're fun for a while then they just get boring I'll second that. I have one just sitting outside. I keep getting the urge to go mess with it but usually just cbf & driving it round a car park by yourself tends to get boring (my mates got sick of theirs ages ago). Mine are a GV and a Kyosho, the GV isn't all that fast or powerful but you can get parts for it from any mr toys store and they're cheap as hell if you break something. The kyosho is stronger in construction, takes a few knocks and it absolutely bloody flies. But I've had trouble getting parts for it, mr toys, that hobby place in mount gravatt, hobby one? something like that, nowhere could get parts. Before you go buying one of any brand make sure you can get parts for it. Especially 2nd hand older models. edit: they're not for sale but here's some pictures anyway rc zoom zoom last edited by whoop at 00:24:22 05/May/06 |

I had two, prepare to spend a truckload of cash just to keep it going.
Was fun for a few months, then just got boring , costly and spend more time fixing it than racing it. |

My mate had one, he was mucking around with it one day on the road, turned his head for a second, and the thing got run over by a big 4WD. LOL. Was the funniest thing i have ever seen.

My mate has a GV and we took off the front wheel drive belt and it would just spin out with the drift tyres he made which were way too slick anyway.

My mate has a GV and we took off the front wheel drive belt and it would just spin out with the drift tyres he made which were way too slick anyway. you leave 4wd enabled and put PVC pipe on all 4 tyres, they drift nicely. me & my friend dorifto'd ours at the local car park. I may still have the video of it somewhere but it's doubtful. The GV's are pretty decent for drifting but not much else as stock. Mine was pretty slow to accelerate, granted once it got to top speed it was probably close to my kyosho but it takes a long time to get there. I took it to some indoor rc track and it was rather twisty & turny & seemed to be constantly accelerating. With my kyosho, punch the throttle and you're there, max speed in a couple of seconds if tuned correctly. It's lighter with a better engine I think. edit: whoa I do still have the video. That's my GV that's in the picture most of the time, that isn't me walking around however, I'm beside the camera in my car. last edited by whoop at 20:17:11 05/May/06 |

they f*** up real easily...high maintainance ($$$)
when they dont want to work you're forever taking the shell off.. if its a bad day you'll leave the shell off then it looks like s*** driving just the chasis. words of wisdom..... GO ELECTRIC!!!! i might have a rc controller for sale maybe dunno if i threw it out |

I dunno, I bet I could go outside right now and start my s*** GV that hasn't been started in months, or my kyosho that hasn't had a run in a while, but not quite as long as the GV. It all depends on how you care for your car.
I will agree though, combustion powered rc cars are a pain in the ass compared to charge and go electric, but with my electric car I was forever charging batteries. I had 2 batteries but for the ammount of time it takes to charge them, compared with how long they lasted in my car it wasn't worth it. Bring the nitro in every 15-20 minutes for a refuel and you could go all day (though that's not such a good idea). |
