Couldn’t talk my 9year old son into going to the dawn service this year. Maybe next year he'll be up for it.
By the time I heard the F111's going over they where gone! I'll be watching the new Gallipoli production on the history channel tonight. It's supposedly very well put together. |

went to the jimboomba dawn service, a lot of people, and being just this side of the ipswich mountians, was cold as all buggery. Met an english guy there who said that this was his first anzac day in australia (attended regularly in england) who was very surprised the amonut of children that were there and well behaved.

Sifn't they wouldn't end up with another Eureka Stockade if they did Besides, I thought Anzac day was the only day that 2-up was legal anymore. It used to be an available game at the Treasury cept it took up valuable slot machine floorspace so they "tossed" it :/ |

I thought it was that it was still illegal, they just 'ignored' the law. Or something equally as silly.

Anyone wanna explain why 2-up is illegal?
Because its gambling? I thought we were different to the yanks in that we could gamble ourselves? On a related note, are we allowed to gamble poker etc? |

"Happy Anzac Day"?
Is every holiday required to be prefixed by "Happy" these days? Seems a tad inappropriate on this particular holiday... |

Yeah in speedhax's words: "While we're still able to stand on our own 2 feet, lets stand for 2 min silence then get s***faced and act like f***ing gronks for the rest of the day in remeberance of our heroes and the freedom we enjoy today".
If you call that showing your respects then can't imagine what it'd be like showing your disrespects. last edited by Booyah at 20:34:01 25/Apr/06 |

drinking to celebrate might be disrespectful in your culture, not mine.
I have a beer or 10 with my grandad nearly every ANZAC Day, if he thinks this is is disprectful to him as a WW2 veteran and his father as an ANZAC he hasn't let me know yet. I'll be sure to tell him your well educated opinion on the matter though. |

Yeah. I was at Anzac Square. Arrived there at Midnight to put all the Barcades up. Then had to escort all the VIP's and Peter Beattie at dawn service. The F111's rocked hard. Then I went to Kedron Wavell RSL to march and for the service there. They had a old fighter plane fly over. Not as low as what he did last year though.
All in all wasn't a bad Anzac day. Lest we forget |

For you information, i'm not the only one thinkning it's disrespectuful, there are aussies out there too that share the same opinion, not just with the excessive drinking and trash like behaviour, but also things holding things like concerts in the killing zone.
I'll be sure to tell him your well educated opinion on the matter though.Really ? i never thought you held such value to my opinion. This the flag spidz fights for http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v104/zeezee/Random/ausflag.gif last edited by Booyah at 20:58:23 25/Apr/06 |

Hey do you see me objecting you posting in iraq/iran/muslim bashing thread ? if anything i was standing up for your heroes by saying they had guts for what they did and they demand real respect from you and not this typical partying that you do every second day of the week anyway. Instead i get racial slurs and get told my opinion doesn't count. Go figure.
I'm still entitled to an opinion no matter what i claim to be or where i come from. Isn't that the same freedom the anzacs fought for ? Thanking you in advance. last edited by Booyah at 21:30:21 25/Apr/06 |

if anything i was standing up for your heroes by saying they had guts for what they did and they demand real respect from you and not this typical partying that you do every second day of the week anyway.1. I drink on ANZAC day with the very heroes you speak of, they have demanded nothing more of me. 2. All the diggers are straight off to the pub after the ANZAC day march, they enjoy a beer as much as the next bloke. 3. I'd be lucky to hit the booze once a month if that. 4. You're entitled to an opinion, but by saying drinking on ANZAC day is disrespectful, is to accuse the ANZACS of disrespecting themselves. 5. Read the muslim threads, I ask geniuine questions about it. 6. I don't discriminate against muslims - I think all religion is stupid. |

ok i wasnt sure weather to pst this here or in a new thread but just watch the Gallipoli doco on the History channle and i have to say it was really moving..one of the best i have ever seen told the story of both sides not one sided or full of prpoganda like most usually are, my great grandfather was in the first world war and died in it cause the turks couldnt afford to give all the troop guns(well the syrian troops anyway).
but i have to say how ever you show your respect to those men that died make sure you do cause about the worst thing you can do in my book is disrespect those fallen fighting for there land. on both sides. |

Booyah normally I respect your insight and opinions on various things, but I really think you're being ignorant. Most of us respect your choice not to drink, be it religious or personal. I don't know. If people enjoying the day as they see fit as a tribute to the freedom that was won for them, you should respect that. If somebody choses to get smashed on ANZAC day, let them. This is a freedom that was bought for them with the blood of their ancestors and is by no mean ment to offend or disrespect.
How did I spend my ANZAC day? I woke up at dawn for my own moment of silence. I then spent the day doing things I enjoy and treasure having the freedom and rights to do. I read a book, watched a bit of TV, had a nap, went for a walk with a friend, listened to some music and did some work on a uni assignment. What more could the ANZACS want from us than using the freedom they fought so hard for in the way we most want? Maybe you'd prefer it if we bow down to a stupid rock in the middle east three times a day, made our women hide themselves away in rediculous outfits, stone people to death for minor crimes and blew ourselves up to further our cause. |

I'm refering to those party junkies that are in it cause it's another day off the week for some more s***facing, then go on claiming they're doing it for the anzacs when in fact they have no clue what it is all about.
I'm not asking you to change your life style either. FYI, muslims pray 5 times a day, not 3. They dont pray to a rock, it's the direction that you have to pray towards. Just goes to show the irony of the ignorance you mentioned earlier in your post. |

I get what Booyah's saying. Its not that its disrespectful to drink as such, its that its disrespectful in that a lot of wankers just use it as an excuse to get pissed when they really don't give a s*** about the diggers. These are the people that go around saying "I'm getting pissed on Anzac day cos thats what you're sposed to do lol" rather than "I'm enjoying a drink with mates to celebrate the freedoms retained for us by people who deserve our respect". Also speedhax - unless you're an aboriginal you better f*** off with your assimilation bulls***. They were here first - are you assimilating with them, dips***? And if you say "but now white people are the majority" - take a look at the world f***head - Mohammed is the most common name for a reason.... |

Just confirmed it with the powers that be at work and it's as I thought
2Up IS LEGALLY allowed to be played outside of a casino (eg pub, bowls club, RSL, someones backyard etc) on Anzac day by way of application for special dispensation. In general though, a blind eye is turned to any unauthorised game (allowing law enforcement a backdoor into shutting down rowdy parties who won't move on peacably etc...). Other than that, 2Up can only played in a casino on days other than Anzac Day |

Its a form of gambling and gambling outside of licensed premises is illegal. Simple as that.

obviously with the kind of money you have at your disposal they probably wouldn't arrest you; similarly with people drinking wine at public bbqs
