I need a car loan only $9-10 grand and wondering who to go with, thinking of going with my bank ANZ noticed the rates are 11.99%
is this reasonable? i worked out using their loan calculator that $9000 would be; ANZ Fixed Personal Loan 11.99% $68.52/week over 3 years (total $10689.12 extra $1068.91 paid[$6.85/week]) $97.10/week over 2 years (total $10098.40 extra $1009.84 paid[$9.71/week]) personally I dont want to go 4 years or higher so left them out, in both 2 and 3 years an extra $1000 dollars is paid which i assume is to be expected. I'd go the 3 year option in this case just to ease it up abit and it doesnt make much difference at all in the long run since its only an extra 60 bucks. What other companys do you recommend and should i assume the reason being the interest rate? |

Is it a new car or second hand?
Check out CUA (http://www.cua.com.au/web/Inter.nsf/attachments/iv01.pdf/$file/iv01.pdf) No more than 9.99% on used cars and 7.99% for new. They don't have monthly fees. |

banks are a ripoff for car loans. try a building society or credit uniion, they are 1-2% pa under the banks rates

i see how ANZ works there, but i'd go with suncorp for no particular reason except that i'm with them for banking and insurance and they're generally good to give you what you need...there.

I'd go with the 3 year term but pay extra to get it done quicker. That way should there be any problems finance wise you don't have to pay the larger amount per week.

good to know crusher thanks Maverik i'll be going with suncorp for insurance, ive heard great things from a 4x4 crazy man i know and they still cover him time after time. I was thinking the same thing Tanaka but as i understand it if its fixed rate you've got no choice. |

i see how you're getting upset/emo there loki
fukknukkle - insurance is good.. but last time i had to wait 3 weeks for insurance money because of a bit of a f***around besides that they've always been fairly good and not too many problems alot smoother then i thought EDIT: the f***-around was some chick crashed into me and they took a long time to evaluate if my car was totalled or not and they wouldnt give me a loan car cos i was under 21 even though the accident wasnt my fault i had to go 3 weeks with no car almost lost my job, then they decided it was totalled and put money in my account, typed in wrong accound number.. waited longer.. finally went in.. then all good.. my dad swears by suncorp though for some reason and he banks with ANZ last edited by маvєяık at 15:55:40 16/Apr/06 last edited by маvєяık at 16:02:48 16/Apr/06 |

I was thinking the same thing Tanaka but as i understand it if its fixed rate you've got no choice. With CUA I could pay back any amount each payment period as long as it was more than the minimum. I rounded it to the nearest $10 I think and then when I could afford it I upped it again. They had no problems with this whatsoever and I recently paid it out. Again, no fees for doing either CUA offer insurance through CGU last edited by Kat at 16:08:02 16/Apr/06 |

you would be suprised if you havent checked already how little the difference in the payments are from 7% to 12% on such small loans like $10,000. what you really should be looking for is a loan where you dont have to pay extra fees for paying it off early, and at least having the option to pay it off early, and also dont get a loan that makes you pay off the interest first before you pay off the principal

ANZ Fixed Personal Loan 11.99%and whats the difference eighty-eight? some reasoning or explaination would be great thanks tough luck Maverik, i remember your thread about it a lil while back, good to see you got it sortted in the end but ay. Again bloody sensational Kat! CUA sounds like the go, thx a bunch :) EDIT:Yea i noticed how little it made Cainer and therefore started looking at the payment conditions such as you mentioned. again CUA sounds like the go so far last edited by Fuknukle at 18:23:03 16/Apr/06 |

I found suncorp to be absolute balls for insurance... overpriced poo, I switched to AAMI and saved $100+ a year and they looked after me awesomely when my car actually got stolen. Had a hirecar for 2 weeks a day after my car was found as a burninated, rimless wreck.
Dunno how much more I could really expect. |

Personal Loans are usually much higher then Car loans for the simple fact that the banks then have something to sell if it does go bad.
Make sure there isn't an early cop-out charge (I.e. pay off quicker = Huge 'fee') And Loan insurance isn't really worth it either, costs too much for what it is. My Bank (Queensland Teachers Credit Unuion (Mum's a teacher)) had pretty good deals when I got my loan so I just went with them. They said I Had to have a 4 year loan because of my, lack of, income... I paid it off in just over a year. So I wouldn't worry about having a longer term. Assuming you don't have to pay out $$$'s for finalising it early. |

my experience with suncorp is that they completely and utterly rock for car insurance, I can't recommend them enough
those insurance tv ads, where the staff in the ads smile all sickingly and make out they're you're best friend when something goes wrong and they'll help you out etc etc - believe it or not, that's actually how suncorp were with me each of the 3 seperate times I made claims in the past 12 months for 4WD'ing incidents. absolutely brilliant service for me so far, and I can elaborate on that for about 20 paragraphs worth |

Dude, my only advice is to live on rice and pay that car loan off ASAP! Do I really need to explain the amount of money that you will lose in not paying off a rapidly depreciating asset, in a short period of time?

Captain America - I don't know if CUA does it over 4 years, I had mine over 3. If they do 4 then they are what you want. No fees for extra paymentsd or early payout,

Also, and pardon me for stating the obvious, but friends of mine have been burnt...
Make sure you get a REVS check on any second hand vehicle you buy. That is, make sure you know about any money owing on the vehicle. If there is money owing, make sure YOU pay it off with part of the purchase price and pay the owner the difference. Don't trust that if you give him the full purchase price that he will use some of it to pay off the loan. |
