So, I've been thinking for a while about setting up a web site that would just catalog pc related reviews. The other day I noticed that dreamhost were doing another big big sale, and I scored myself a years domain rego, and a years hosting for $9.25 US. OMG.

So, now I have the domain, I'm just wondering if anyone actually thinks they would use such a service... To explain it a little more, basically say you were looking for a new video card, you could search by the chipset, or by for a specific model... and hopefully find lots of reviews on what you wanted from varying websites on the internet.

In my job (selling IT gear) I often want to read up on products, and I'm sure you've all noticed that searching for "A8N-SLI Premium Review" on google brings up a whole stack of those stupid trick Keeko and About.com sites that don't really tell you anything.

The only thing I haven't thought much about yet (and probably the most important) is how I'm going to get the reviews to add to the search engine... and I'm currently thinking about a few different methods.

Really, I'm just wondering if anyone thinks they would find such a service useful. Of course it would be free, maybe just ad supported if it actually ever took off.

Sounds like www.gamerankings.com except for hardware. Gamerankings has a decent system whereby the public adds links to reviews and basic information and it tallies the results and presents a list of reviews and an average score. As a game reviewer myself, I always go to gamerankings and add my review to the database to give the site more publicity etc. I would do the same if I reviewed hardware.

Quite some time ago, ~4 years maybe, I started a similar project, which was effectly just a DB reviews/benchmark scores. In a way it was a lot like Futuremarks ORB, but the scores also took into account what type of benchmark, ie, the game, where it came from.

Noone was really interested in contributing though so I gave up.
