I remember a little while ago people where talking about getting quick and easy cash while backpacking by doing medical trials.

Well 6 guys got owned doing it in the UK. Somewhat oldish news.

The novel drug, called TGN1412, caused multiple organ failure in the six men injected with it at a Northwick Park Hospital, London, UK, on 13 March.

About 20 mins after injection these guys started getting very adverse affects of the drug. None of these effects where seen in animal or lab testing.
So far they have all lived, there is a possible chance that they will be affected for the rest of their lives, possible disruption to the immune system.

So be careful as to what you sign up for!

This is why we need human testing. What would happen if PETA or whatever the Australian equivalent is had their way and we couldn't test on animals either. We'd be back in the dark ages as far as medicine goes.

Take one for the team, and it is more likely you are going to be hit by a car then suffer ill effects from drug testing.

It sure was. I was just pointing out that it does happen tho.

You can always minimse your chances of really bad effects by not doing various types of trails, such as trail drugs that play with the immune system, instead the more placid eat these kinds of foods for a few weeks while we take blood samples kind.

Apparently the trial was around 2000 pounds, well above the couple hundred for other trials in the region, that should give you a clue :D
