The official Oblivion Downloads site has been launched, allowing you to pay to download special items to extend the gameplay (veteran gamers might be familiar with this concept, except for the bit about having to pay for it). The first thing on offer is a US$1.99 suit of horse armour. If someone points me to some sites for free mods I'll update this news item with them. |

lol who the f*** is going to want to buy that. Imagine the outrage if valve made you pay to get the AWP in game, or the latest skin.

Why would anyone pay for items in a singleplayer game? You can't even show them off to anyone.

Wouldn't the community be able to just make something like this for free anyway with their construction kit?

Why would anyone pay for items in a singleplayer game? You can't even show them off to anyone You'd have to be quite sad to pay-for/collect items solely for the purpose of showing them off to gain attention from your peers. Ah I forgot, that's what attracts people to MMORPGs. Single-player RPGs for the win! No online e-penis-wielding wankers to wade through. |

it would be cool if you could stash stuff on your horses, like a saddle bag or something, then you could have a heap of weaponry or spells handy ourside of a dungeon while you went in and grabbed all the phat loot
though I still wouldn't pay for it |

LOL
Paying for items in a single player game is dumb. Online I can understand but not single. |

meh its an optional feature which you pay for, i dont see what the big deal is or the outrage.
it would be different if you were paying for a patch, but the fact is your getting something that wasn't originaly intended in the release of the game or advertised and to have it requires you to pay more, thus the people who spent the time making it get what they deserve, sounds very fair to me. once the oblivion comunity play the game to death enough you will soon find plenty of free stuff to download anyway. |

i was reading about this earlier on a link from /., turns out the horse armour isn't even armour, it's effectively just a new skin with no additional defensive properties.
With oblivion makers saying the believe the price point is right, this means that a US$20 expansion pack for oblivion could be expected to have 10-15 similarly f***ing useless skins and other crappy addons, whereas you would expect a US$20 expansion to provide significant improvements/additions to the game. |
