Sony have formally announced that the PlayStation 3 will be launched in early November - in in Japan, North America and Europe.

With a monthly production capacity of one million units, SCEI will push forward a powerful product launch to spread the platform rapidly throughout the world, together with a strong and attractive lineup of PS3 game titles.

This is from the international press release and as yet we've received no information about the Australian launch - stay tuned.

Merrill Lynch wrote a report on the fact that the PS3 is going to be extremely expensive to manufacture initially, as expensive as $800 USD. Although I still don't think they've completely finalised the hardware, thats still insanely high, considering they say they that they would have to charge $675-700 US Dollars to consumers.

Thats about $1000AU. $1080!!

I forget who it was, but someone at a Hermitech lan basically said they initially produce the consoles at a loss and recoup the money from the games. I would actually believe that, especially sice how quickly the prices of the consoles fall after the launch.

It'll be interesting to see who comes out on top, saw Knockout Kings (think it was that, or another boxing game) at EB last week, and all I can say it was sensational. Almost looked real.

yer some ppl are speculating its going to sell for $450Au in japan. dunno what that is in yen.

bout 80 yen to the dollar, so about 36000 yen? though I reckon it'll cost more than that, especially here in aus
