log in as the administrator.
on the folder, hit properties, security. take ownership (full control) for that folder. |

Yeah, make sure all your permissions are set properly... then, if you haven't tried it, I'd suggest rebooting, opening a command prompt, killing explorer from your process list (so your shell dies and stays dead), and using rmdir /s /q on the folder in question to get rid of it... sometimes explorer seems to hold onto folders for file indexing/thumbnail generation and refuses to let go...
edit: This has been a problem for over a year? If it's been that difficult to fix I'm surprised you didn't back up your data and reformat the whole damn partition by now. last edited by icewyrm at 10:07:31 15/Mar/06 |

LOL, can't believe you shared the combos, gold.
Wild stab in the dark here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307877 Also, limewire is bad mmmmkay. Maybe it's in use because you're sharing it out to the intraweb via limewire. Maybe try booting into safe mode and see if you can delete it. Something is locking it right, and that's what you have to figure out. Here is some shiz I found on a website which might help you understand what's going on: ---paste--- Error Message: "Error Deleting File or Folder. Cannot delete XX: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use." Translation: If you try to delete a file that is write-protected or is currently in use by another user or application, Windows will not allow you to delete it. Access to the file can also be denied if you're logged into the system with a restricted user account that does not have the necessary privileges to delete files. Solution: Generally, all that is necessary to resolve this problem, provided you are logged into the system with sufficient privileges, is to shut down all running applications. Once the apps are closed, try deleting the file(s) again. We commonly see this error when doing routine maintenance on some of the systems in the lab. The Windows TEMP folder usually contains files that can be safely deleted, but when applications are running, some files are placed in this folder and cannot be removed until the application is closed. Email clients and antivirus software are the most common culprits. |

thanks gimpy. ima try that now. also i havnt shared anything in limewire. and no other program i have at all is using that folder. i think im going to need to burn a load of DVDs then format the partition. not looking foward to burning 95gb though
EDIT - ok after looking through the permissions in safe mode there was something in there under the Deny section. i deleted that and now i can delete folders and such, but i still cant delete actual avi files inside the folders. oh well ill take it as this is better than nothing. thanks for the help guys last edited by DM at 17:42:03 15/Mar/06 |

Try deleting the avi files with unlocker or from a command prompt
*edit* Also check the permissions on the actual files, you know you have to "Replace permission entries on all child objects" in the advanced section of the security tab right? last edited by gimpy at 17:55:22 15/Mar/06 |

couldn't be arsed reading because it's 4.45 am and I'm jetlagged to s***. Have you tried modifying the file system in an appropriately configured linux environment. You CAN modify NTFS with the right kernel patches.
