Hey all. Just playing a bit of bf2 tonight and wanted the latest version so I downloaded the patch. After the patch was applied whenever I try and play bf2 it'll go to a black screen, load for a little while, and then quit back to desktop. winxp some ati card (latest drivers) directx 9 amd cpu (don't know how fast) If anything else is relevant tell me and I'll post it up. Hopefully this is a common problem with an easy fix. |

Download the full uninstall Special Forces uninstall BF2 Update your graphics drivers if you aren't on newies install bf2 install SF install full 1.2 patch The next day i played i had problems with disconnections within 60seconds of getting on any server. Update punkbusters delete the 'cache' folder off My Games\BF2\something\something\cache then it worked. |

Sounds like your having a resolution, refresh rate problem. The game is aborting because it cant render the display.
Try the following - 1. Start the game from the autorun on the original cd. if that doesnt work 2. Start the game from the bf2.exe and not the shortcut as I beleive there may be switches in the shortcut to set resolution and refresh rate so you want to bypass those. if that doesnt work 3. rename this file \My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\ to something like \My Documents\Battlefield 2\OLD_Profiles\ and then start the game from the cd. This will reset your game to the default settings. Once you get the game started retrieve your profile, and re-adjust the graphics settings using the Menu as normal and then the game should start properly from now on. Let me know if nothing fixes it. |

From EA;s support site.
Question That being said I do defineately recall a pretty big post my EA about fixing the issue with the game crashing after applying the incremental patch. Basically they gave a detailed method of uninstalling everything and then re-installing it all over again. Apparently that is the only way to really fix the issue. It went in to detail about deleting windows temp files because the patch leaves files behind that are 're-used' again during the re-install and will still screw your game. I'll try to dig up the thread I read it in. You can manually uninstall the game by removing the files and registry keys associated with it. Be sure to follow these steps exactly as they appear to prevent accidental file/program deletion on your system. Mate, I'd try the other suggestions first, if they don't help I would delete the whole thing, re-install the game and grab the FULL patch rather than the incremental and fingers crossed you'll be fragging again. last edited by Psycho! at 09:58:38 20/Feb/06 |

I have definitely heard about lots of problems with the incremential patch. If you're having problems after using it first thing I'd try is downloading the phat full patch and seeing if that magically fixes them.
