February 9, 2006 - Today, Microsoft announced it will bring Halo 2 to the PC -- and more specifically, exclusively to the upcoming Windows Vista operating system. Microsoft Game Studios has set up a dedicated development team to work with Bungie on the project.

The PC version of Halo 2 will offer the full single-player campaign and multiplayer maps of the original Xbox version, with the addition of the content in the Multiplayer Map Pack as well as a tool for building and customizing levels.

Microsoft has not announced a release date for the PC version of Halo 2. The company did clarify, however, that the game will only run on Windows Vista and not on earlier versions of Windows.

No talk of if they're going to yet again leave out Co-op play tho..

I somehow thing they won't be making many sales of Vista for this one, while at the same time needlessly constricting their audience and losing potential sales. Yay!

well, they include Coop and I'd almost consider that as a reason to upgrade - there's scant few decent Co-Op fps games on the pc as it is. Although I somehow doubt it'll sell a million copies of Vista just so people can get Halo2 pc (worked for the xbox tho - wasn't Halo one of the main reasons a lot of people bought the original Xbox?)

I don't know many 15-25 year olds who actually own a legitimate copy of Windows or who would pay hundreds of $$$ for a Vista copy to be able to play Halo 2. So either Halo 2 won't take off, or Vista would have to be easily piratable to allow the Windows-pirating gaming masses to play Halo 2.

That's my 50c (+5c GST).

What a f***head move by microsoft. seriously how powerful do they think halo is as a gaming force that it could single handedly convince enough people to pay for vista just so they can play it.

Wouldn't this be because it will be using dx10?

^^ I would expect dx10 to also get released on XP, so I doubt there are any technical limitations. I could be wrong though.

It might be different if MS were pitching something like Tekken,Gran Turismo or a game from a genre that is pretty poor on PC compared to consoles, but pitching an FPS that doesnt really bring anything overly exciting or new to PC gamers who can play all the best fps games already isnt really a selling point for Vista and seems pretty laughable :/
