There's a demo out for Star Wars: Empire of War, the new Star Wars RTS by the ex-C&C Generals guys, looks pretty sweet and I've been hearing some good things. Though I will have to wait til I get home tonight to try it.

Edit: AusGamers mirror is now online, including a torrent. promoted/edited forum item

Got any screenies for it? Should be interesting to see if it's like most RTS stuff or will it be something fresh?

The demo I found was rather short, 700 megs I had expected a little longer then 10-15 mins. :/

Any ideas on the release date for the full version?

I thought this was pretty fun with lots of potential. The demo was certainly short though. The tutorial was actually pretty good though, prolly took longer to do the tutorial than the actual single player mission :/

I like how there is global (galatic!) base building, troop and resource management + space combat + land combat and smaller base building elements. Seems like there is a lot to do in this. Maybe it is simpler than it appears, but it looks like there is a lot to learn. That's definitely a good thing though.

Different ways to acquire resources and technology depending on if you're rebellion or imperial forces is cool as well, even it is just as simple as being able to hire smugglers IF you have a cantina on that planet, which can then in turn go and steal credits from imperial controlled planets. Then imperial forces can then hire bounty hunters IF they have a hutt palace, which can then in turn hunt down smugglers. Lots of cool little 'star wars-y' details.

Graphics arn't bad but space battle certainly look a lot cooler than land battles, but maybe thats just because you can have such epic amounts of dudes going at it. You can literally get as many ships battling it out as there are in the battle at the start of episode III. w00t!!!

Collectors edition is out on feb-16th. I couldn't find a reference to a non-collectors edition, or the release dates could be different.

Two thumbs up from me, played the demo and thought it was very awesome.. a nice change to the usual mass production of RTS that seem to have dominated the gaming market since C&C was released.

C&C was heavily influenced by Dune 2. Sure, they are both Westwood productions, but Dune2 implemented much of what we love and loathe.

I'm not one to usually play demo's but I must say once I got the hang of this I really enjoyed it and can't wait until the full release!

It won't install it if you already have it on your system.

hooray for demos released before the actual game is, it makes me laugh when demos come out like 3 months after the game release
